Help! I May Have Added Too Many Fish At Once.

I just added additional 8 fish to my 40 gallon tank at once. After doing so I realized it was probably a big mistake. Before I did so I did test the water, and my Ammonia level was good I just had 1 Guppy and 4 small catfish in there. What should I do now to prevent any damage?

Keep testing every day and change water as needed.

Seachem prime and maybe stability are your best friend for the next few days

Your benifual bacteria self replica every 7 hours so it should only take a few days for them to catch up.

What sort of fish? 8 small fish like tetras likely won't be an issue, but 8 bigger fish could well be.

what were the results of the tests?
Test for ammonia every day. If the level is anything other then zero, do a 25-35% water change and continue to do water changes every other day until you have steady readings of
Zero Ammoni, Zero nitrite, But not zero Nitrate. You want to try to keep nitrate near 20ppm or lower. it won't be zero in a cycled tank.

Without fertilizer, my planted tank would always have zero nitrate

I added 2 Mollies, 3 guppies and 3 Silver Rasbora.

You can either constantly monitor your ammonia/nitrite and do water changes or you can just dose seachem prime for about a week (long enough for your beneficial bacteria to catch up with the new bioload)

I added 6 rasbora, 5 neon tetra, 1 nerite snail to my tank at once then dosed prime and stability for like 6 days. Didnt lose a single one

It's not really a huge deal, just increase the amount you're feeding incrementally.
