Help I am very new to the aquarium life And I think I might have a pregnant red platy I have a tank divider but idk if I’m right or not and what should I be doing???

I'm fairly new here as well, I have had 2 platys for 5 months and both of their bellies have always looked like that (I think its normal) and they have never popped out babies, my mollies on the other hand they reproduce like crazy

 

Does it have a gravid spot. Its a black spot on the stomach by the analfin

 

It could also be a balloon belly platy. They are rather big stomachs

 

Has she been pooping? How often do you feed her? If not she could be over fed or constipated. You could try fasting her for a few days or feeding her a deshelled pea. If you do that, and she doesn’t get smaller it’s very likely that she is pregnant. If she is, keep an eye on her, look for her starting to square off, which is when her belly still is full, but the bottom looks more flat than round. Once she has squared off, she will be ready to give birth soon. If you want to keep the fry you can put her in a breeder box, although that can stress her out, or you can get some hornwort or other floating plants for the fry t hide in until they are big enough for you to scoop them out and move them. If you don’t want to keep the fry, don’t do anything and she and the other fish will eat them.
