Help! Going On Vacation! Bug Bombing!

So guys I am going on vacation starting in Friday. Not a big deal. I've done it before. I will be gone for a week. Unfortunately, my father in law plans on bug bombing the house. He plans to set them off right as we leave on Friday and we won't be back until the following Saturday.
What can I do to protect my fish?!

Cover it in a bag

I was thinking maybe putting plastic wrap over the top and taping it down real good but my problem is I have some bamboo and ribbon plants growing out the back. I also have a canister filter so I have to make sure those places are sealed tight as well. Any suggestions on that?
And what about the light?

Dang, that's a tough one....
You'd have to entirely cover the aquarium, but to do that you would cut off the oxygen supply, otherwise the change or aerosols or other poisons getting in are still high...
I don't think there is a good way to seal it off without sealing off the oxygen. I really hope someone can give you a solid answer, good luck!

I do have plants in the tank so I'm not sure that oxygen exchange would be a problem. But it's not heavily planted. So I'm not sure it won't be a problem either.

Orrrrrrr! You could take the fish to a friend's house along with the tank until you get back. Lots of work yes but it's up to you. You can also ask your dad to NOT bug bomb the house and explain how that can kill your fish.

He couldn't care less about my fish. He barely let's me have them at all. He would be happy if they died. And I have 3 tanks. A 29, a 10 and a 15. None of my friends would be willing to take them in not that I'd have any way to get them there.

Bug bombing for what? Using what?

Best thing to do is put a clear bag over the entire tank. Use a large trash bag. Use multiple bags if you have to. As long as you don’t have it sealed tight, I think your fish will be okay. Hey, it’s better than nothing.

Agree. Too keep oxygen in the tanks, make sure to have air stones in each tank!

maybe put the air pump wrapped in sheets so it filters out some toxins before pushing bubbles threw the tank, and the bags at least covering to the floor if not slightly longer so the gasses can't completely flow up into the tank with
its all really questionable sorries :\

Bed bugs. And I'm not sure what chemical yet.

And I understand that this is something new. I really hate it. And the worse part is I have no say and not even my mother in law has a say cause she told him not to do it. He's gonna do it anyway. It's irritating. I cannot wait till I get out of this place.

Can you cover and shut down all equipment and have a trusted person to go over and air out the house, get power back on to equipment when the process is done. I know it takes a few hours before it's safe to go back in after airing out. This is the safest way I can think of and hopefully you can find someone to do this for you. Good luck

I wouldn’t like the idea of bombing the house with chemiclas either, but they are bed bugs, and human welfare is important too. Covering the tank is likely sufficient.

Unfortunately I cannot. He's really paranoid. We have gates over the doors and he's gonna lock the house down tight when we leave and he's the only one with a key to the gate. He's just making life really difficult for me. I'm thinking I'm just gonna have to wrap it in plastic wrap and hope for the best.

when I flea bombed I put everything on the lid and put a sheet of plastic over that then a heavy blanket. I left my filter running but unplugged my air pump. We were only gone 2 days but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt if it was longer.

Healthy fish can really take some harsh conditions, much harsher than we think. I think everything will be fine!

We had a bad ice storm quite a few years back and I had no power for about five days with a 55 gallon tank. All fish survived. I wish you all the best for you and fishies. Please post how everything turned out. Try to have a great vacation.

It’s the chemicals you are worried about, not oxygen.

And for good reason, the chemicals that kill bugs are designed to kill, everything.

Plastic over the top so nothing drops in, but opening at the bottom so air (oxygen) can flow in.

Ask him for a compromise, no bug bomb in the room the fish are in.

Let us know how it turns out.

Plastic sheeting and blue Painters tape. Just put plastic over the whole kit and tape the edges to walls and floor around it, can leave a nice big pocket of air space inside. Same way you'd protect furniture while sanding and painting. Same way he's hopefully sealing up your cabinets and cupboards so you aren't eating off pesticide covered dishes when you get home.

I wouldn’t advise using air stones as the air drawn in may also draw in the bug bomb vapour, I’d cover your tank & leave the filter running as long as you haven’t got a VenturI valve on it.

Agreed. If you have a power filter without an airline hose, your life will be much easier.

can you build a simply painters booth our of plastic and seal it off with tape. If you give about a foot or two of space all around that should leave enough oxygen to last a week for the tank. Build a a simple frame with PVC pipe or 2x4's and then cover it with a single piece of plastic tarp sealed off good to the floor.

basically something like this without the fans and filters and such.
