I have a 75 gallon salt water tank that has been up and running for about 4 months now. I have 2 clowns,1 banghI cardinal , 1 cleaner wrasse, 1 blue hippo, 1 flame angel , 2 skunk cleaner shrimp and 5 snails. Recently I had purchased 1 blonde naso tang and 1 blue throat jaw trigger together. After 6 days the naso died. I replaced the naso with a blue powder tang. The blue powder died after 5 days. I did not replace him. Two weeks later the trigger died. What could be causing this, any insite will help.

Did you quarantine any of these fish that you recently added to your tank and observe them for diseases??

People can get away with throwing in Freshwater fish immediately into the main tank, but for Saltwater aquarists, a separate quarantine tank is a must.

Also; tell us a little about their death. Have they been eating regularly, did they have any abnormal behavior, did you notice anything bizzare on their body? What are your water parameters during that time? Have you had any ammonia fluctuations?

Did it show any signs or symptoms of illness?

Water parameters all check out okay?

Do you know if the tangs you purchased from your LFS, if they received them in just recently? or have they been staying in their tanks for a while?

As already mentioned, please provide water parameters (salinity, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, PH). Did the deceased fish have any signs of illness? Are the remaining fish acting strange in any way? Were the deceased being picked on?

Also, the fish you are purchasing are not suitable for a 75 gallon aquarium. Blonde naso tangs NEED 180g tanks that are at least 8ft long, as they are open water swimmers and need room to move. Powder blue tangs and blue throat triggers should not be housed in a tank smaller than 125g either.

You will need a much bigger tank for a hippo tang than a 75. Same with the trigger. You need to do your research before you buy fish. Don't impulse buy because chances are is that the smallish fish you get grows into a monster.
