Hi, I am new here. Can someone give me advice I just woke up to find my beautiful Gourami with this injury. I do weekly water changes, test two or three times a week. There is another three spot Gourami in the tank along with Molly’s and three tetras.
i’m very concerned any advice would be appreciated!

Yes- and I have no idea if it was injured from another fish during the night. Just got this fish last week.

My apologies I’m trying to figure out how to use this thread. Yes it happened overnight and it looks like an injury underneath the dorsal fin. I’m very concerned and cycling an extra tank to put it in (actually heating the water ) Do you think this is an injury from another fish it was perfectly fine yesterday

Welcome to Fishlore.
This would be my guess, both Mollies and Three Spots are capable and aren’t very good tankmates for Dwarfs.

Sorry to say but looking at the general shape, coloration and the wound my suspicion is you bought a sick fish which is infected with Dwarf Gourami Iridovirus. This virus can cause all kinds of (progressive) infections.

I don't think another fish caused this and doubt you can do anything different than euthanise.

Sorry !

I’m pretty much a rookie just started at 40 gallon tank but I’ve had bettas forever. I hate this, I did so much research before getting these fish and were told the best companions were mollies especially. Thank you very much! Last thing you want is to get a new fish to take care of and see an injury like this

Ok- thank you. I’m going to try to treat him. It is a bad injury/and so suddenly! I’m going to contact the local pet store. I really appreciate everyone’s feedback. He is eating thankfully but I’m going to look up the information on how to treat it.

Thank you all for the advice. I decided to take him out of the community tank and treat him individually with Melafix. He seems to be doing well and has a big appetite thankfully!

From what I've heard, melafix is actually harmful to gouramis because it coats their labyrinth organ, making it harder to breath.

Ok- thank you. I’m glad I’m here, this is what I need help with. Do you have another suggestion? I have Aquarium salt and Epson salts

I'm not exactly sure, but I think the salt may help. I think the biggest thing is keeping the water pristine. Also, Indian Almond leaves might help, but I'm not super sure about this either... Sorry.

This would be my suggestion over salt. Much better for softer water fish like Gourami.
