Can anyone tell me if it's possible to convert music files stored on Windows Media Player10 from wav format to mp3 format to free up some space on that particular hard-drive?.. yup, I'm afraid I'm still a bit of a doofus when it comes to computers, so any help would be greatly appreciated.. ???

Try a program called CDeX

http://download.cnet.com/CDex/3000-2140-10226370.html

It lets you take music off your CDs to make back up copies, or MP3s for your MP3 players. Also it converts Wav to MP3 as well as other conversions.

Once the program is loaded and running, go to Convert>Convert WAV file(s) to Compressed Audio file(s)

From there just change the dir to the dir with the wav files you want converted, select files to convert and let'er rip.

Carol, HapCat is your son? If so, it's a great pleasure to meet you CapHat!

Richard, I don't know if this will help you as I myself am NOT a computer whiz, lol. But whenever I want some songs on my iPod, I have to transfer them onto my computer first. There, I use a CD-burning program that converts all of my songs into mp3 format. Then I put these songs onto my iPod. This program, I think, can convert any music file into mp3 (but not 100% sure). The program is called iTunes. Another program that converts many music files in to mp3 format is the one that comes with your computer, if you have bought a computer with a CD burner.

Thanks all.. I'd have answered sooner, except in a rush to answer the phone (which is on the computer desk), I knocked over a glass of water (which was also on the desk!!) straight into my keyboard!!.. Yeesh!!.. anyways, after several sessions with Buzz and her blow-dryer and a coupla semi-sunny days, the keyboard seems to be back to good.. so thanks again Carol, Isabella and 'specially HapCat.

I downloaded CDex.. so just one more question.. how do I go about exporting the music files from Windows Media Player, where they're stored, over to CDex to do the conversion and then back to Media Player?.. I have a sinking feeling it's gonna be such a simple procedure, that I'll end up looking like a village idiot looking for a village, by asking the question.. but I'm still clueless as to what to do next.

They should just be in your My Documents>My Music Folder. I believe that is where WMP keeps the files.
