I have had brown algae on my water wisteria for about two weeks, and now in my anuvias, and I have tried to get rid of it but it won’t go away. I am going to try not using light for a day or two and see if it helps. I do not know what to do, I can’t find what to do Either. Please help!

How new is the tank? That would be diatoms and it is a stage that all tanks go through a couple months in. Nerite snails are excellent at cleaning it up and after a while it will stop happening.

I have set up dozens and dozens of tanks. The diatom stage is annoying, but it happens.

exactly what I have been reading.

Nirite snails are exellent for it everyone says. I have only 1 in my 10g! I'm going to have to add a few more, because that's a lot of algae for that poor guy lol

You'd be surprised how much a single nerite can clean up But adding a 2nd can't hurt! I wouldn't throw too many in there though.

I have a QT tank that I set up a couple months ago. And it had a TON of brown algae all over the walls. I threw a nerite in there and in a couple days he had most of it cleaned off the walls. I have 17 tanks and am often tanking small tanks down and putting tanks back up. So I have dealt with this phase many many times. I hate it! Especially for plants. In fact, sometimes it is worth waiting until the diatom stage is over before planting!

Nerites aren't going to help much with little plant leaves though. But diatoms rub off of plants pretty easily (in my experience). If you gently rub the leaves you can get most of it off.

I picked up very small horned nerite snail at my lfs about a month ago. Popped him in with one of my bettas and a zebra nerite. He has been happily munching the diatomes off a small anubias plant, that the big snail wouldn't touch. It was almost completely covered, and as of this morning, all but one leaf has beem cleaned. Nerites are great, but make sure to feed them after the algae is gone. They can be picky eaters, so you may have to experiment with different foods to see what they like.

It was set up in March, so about 4 maybe 5 months. It is only on the plants and no where else so I’m confused most brown algae is everywhere.

So just rub off the stuff with my hands and then vacuum it up, what if it comes back
