Help! Betta twitching when swimming

He keeps twitching and I found a weird black worm in his tank a few hours after he started acting weird. When he swims, he twitches and can’t really swim straight. What do I do? He twitched so bad that he almost flew out of the tank

Water parameters? Do you have a picture?

Nitrate and nitrate are zero. Don’t have ammonia test kit at the moment

Did you cycle the tank first? It doesn't seem like it's cycled you should have nitrates if it was. My money is on a high ammonia level. Give the tank a big water change (75%+) and keep up with 50% daily water changes until you're cycled. Going to be a few weeks until you are.

He’s in a small quarantine tank at the moment. My normal tank is cycled. I moved him because I found a weird black worm at the bottom of his normal tank and I can’t clean it until morning so I moved him because I was worried.

How long has he been in there? Was this happening before he was put in the quarantine tank? And did you add cycled filter media to the quarantine? Also a video of him twitching might help

I just put him in about 30 minutes ago. I added cycled filter media as well. He’s been twitching whenever he swims for the past few hours. Hard to get a video of it because he just kind of sits there. It seems hard for him to swim.

It might just be the new water then. I know my betta twitches after water changes for a bit. Just keep an eye on him.

okay, thank you so much

He’s now laying on the bottom of the tank sideways and his fins are clamped. He’s only using one fin to swim. And he’s gasping for air a lot

Definitely sounds like ammonia poisoning. Or did you by chance forget to condition the water?

He’s doing much better now. Must’ve forgotten to condition water or something. Because I put him back into his normal tank and ran his filter for a while and now he’s back to his energetic self
