Help! Betta Seriously Injured By Filter Intake!

My betta (now named fighter) got trapped in the filter intake for (as far as I can tell) a few hours today. I think she’ll pass away during the night but if anyone has any ideas for meds I can use help! I really don’t know what to do, but she’s still breathing. And as long as she’s willing to fight, I’ll fight with her. She was immediately rushed to the betta ICU. Help! Gypsy13 RainBetta Discus-Tang I don’t know who to call on! Thank you. As for the night, do you think salt is a good idea. (No caking agent table salt?)

I'm not sure sorry but please don't use MelaFix as it leaves a oil film on the surface that will coat the bettas lungs when they get air. This will cause them to die.

Deffinately won’t do that. Thanks for the reply. I’m literally going to get up every hour tonight and check on her. CanadianFishFan any thoughts on Bettafix? I’ve read they’re similar.
Edit: she’s trying to right herself. Is this a good sign?

Melafix won’t put an oil layer on the water but will affect the liver. Using salt (pure sodium Chloride) or melafix would possibly prevent infection but it sounds pretty bad. I’d keep a close watch through the night. If she survives the night, you could add some salt. But let’s wait and see.
I’m so so sorry. My heart is with you.

Sorry about your fish.if there is internal damage there really isn’t anything you can do. I wouldn’t stress her out even more with medicine since it is a physical injury not a disease. A dark place,a bubbler - but avoid water flow-and nice clean water are my suggestions. Wrap a sponge over that intake.

I was going to, but I was busy today and it was the first day with the filter on. I’m praying that there’s no internal damage. Thank y’all so much for all the support. My biological fam doesn’t understand the emotional attachment I have with my fish. They think because I got her just a few days ago, I can’t possibly have much of a bond, but I do!

I’m immediately attached too. I’m one of those naming every one. Loving them all. Dying inside when I can’t help them. I understand. We all do. We’ll be here for you and her. This is your finbaby.

She’s still hanging in there! She’s officially upright and breathing! No visible signs of damage other than the destroyed fins.

We once had a Betta in the same situation. He lived. Always keep hope!

Do not do anything. Let him fight or rest. Anything at this point is a potential stressor. Keep his water pristine, temperature good, put in some catappa leaf and hope for the best.

When you’re devoted to your pets, there’s nothing that can stand in your way of taking care of them.

From this end, things are looking better. Fighter is swimming/wiggling around her “tank” and looking very alert.
Will post an update at 12 am (if I can sleep.)

So far so good. Rest. You need to take care of you too.
Thank you for the update.

Nothing silly about love and compassion. It’s beautiful.

Fighter is still breathing and sitting upright. She is still constantly moving and otherwise unhappy that I dare disturb her sleep.
She’ll officially make it through her first day in the icu at 6.

Good news:
Fighter made it through the night. I think she’s in it for the long haul. In which case, I think it’s time to start a water change/,edifice regimine. Does everyone here think salt is the best option for treatment, or do y’all have different recommendations?

No I would not use salt. I would keep water absolute pristine and dose the water some vitamins and soak food in vitamin water.
