Ms. Blue has dropsy I think, Need help in identifying if it is.
I thought I caught on time but I am into second dose of Kanaplex and Ms. Blue is still bloated.
What I have been doing -
I have been doing 1/3 tsp to 4 cups salt water baths daily for 4 days now.
Feeding her Brine Shrimp with 1 dose focus and 1 dose metroplex and a little garlic guard let it sit for 20 mins before trying to feed her. She ate first two days but now not eating.
Water perimeters were great in 125 gallon from where she came from.
In 5 gallon(half full hospital tank with air stone) I am doing water changes with RO DI water and adding back in Neutral Reg, stress guard, equilibrium per what directions say on bottles.
She sometimes is less bloated after salt baths but sometimes looks worse. I have done 4 (out of 10 total) salt baths so far.
I don't know how to get her to eat the medicated food since she is not eating now?
I am not sure if I need to be doing water changes with water from my 125 gallon or keep doing RODI water?
I am lost at what to do now or just do one more kanaplex on Sat and wait?
Note: I also lost a dwarf rainbow but was not dropsy, her stomach got really white and color and was head up on top of tank. I did separate hospital tank with her and she didn't make it but two days.
So far all other fish in 125 are doing great.

125 gallon community Tank - 3 male dwarf rainbows, 6 female dwarf rainbows, 5 lowlight tetras, 1 - bonita strats, 2 Denison Barbs, 1 Striata Botia Loach, 1 Synodontis Multipunctatus Catfish, 3 Pristella tetras, 3 female Bettas, 2 bristle nose plecostomus

I am attaching pictures for any help or advise please....!!! I don't want to lose her. :((((((

Does look like dropsy. Maybe try epsom salt baths instead of aquarium salt baths. However, dropsy has quite a HIGH fatality rate, so no guarantees.

So sorry about your little girl!!!

You can always try an antibiotic combination of both kanaplex and maracyn 2.
You would have to just dose the meds in the tank water since she is not eating.

I would use whatever water she has been acclimated to; if that is the RODI water, then continue using it. If not, then it may be best to use what she is used to. Anything new like a change in water type/parameters/minerals, etc., may cause her more stress.

Unfortunately, once they stop eating there is usually little that can be done. :(

Again, I am so sorry! I hope by some miracle that she pulls through!

Thank you! She is hanging on but still day 3 no eating. Gave her epsom salt bath, that’s what been doing( no aquarium salt) today again. She’s mostly at top and sits on Betta leaf, pops up and take a breath a lot. I am just going to try and make her as comfortable as I can. When I dose meds she gets worse so I am stopping and letting her be. Did water change with 125 gallon water. She is a fighter for sure. Boy wish I could help Ms. Blue. feeling defeated.

Thanks, I have been using Epsom salt not aquarium salt. I know just some have success and they have no idea how they did it which is find wild because dropsy has been around for ever and we still don’t have a cure?????? Just not right for the little fish to not have cure already.

Dropsy is incredibly hard to defeat. Bettas are so genetically weak now due to over breeding, especially those bought from big chain pet stores. Getting a betta from a good breeder is always better than getting one from a big chain. It's even better when the breeder knows the histroy behind the betta's parent fish.

Dropsy is not really a disease in itself. It is brought on by other illnesses that cause fluid to build up and organs to shut down. The most common cause is probably an internal or external bacterial infection. It can also be caused by an injury of some sort, and sometimes even some forms of fungal infections. Fish stress also plays a part, and things like poor water quality play a role, too. Since there are so many things that can cause dropsy to happen, it's often not easy to pinpoint the exact cause. A fish with dropsy can sometimes live as long as 21 days, or even a few days longer depending on the severity of the condition.

Honestly, I don't know how some people are able to treat it and have their fish bounce back so well. I think that if there were an honest poll taken, one might find that the majority of fish that do indeed show symptoms of dropsy, and then recover, often are afterward prone to continual illness.

But I always recommend treatment. Others recommend euthanasia right away, and I respect that opinion. It's just that I get attached, and if you are like me, it is better to know that you tried everything that you could. But if you see that she can no longer breathe well (you will know it when you see it - the constant fast panting for air) and is really suffering, then I would recommend that you euthanize poor Ms. Blue. :(
