I Started my aquarium hobby around 2-3 months ago and I have two female bettas, a halfmoon and a delta tail and they're both in a 5 gallon aquarium along with a racer nerite snail. So far everything has been going well, I cycled my aquarium, etc. and there were no problems. Then about a month ago my halfmoon's tail was a little ripped so I removed both fish from the aquarium, and then after about three days I put them back and nothing happened. Then today I was looking at my fish and my Half-moon's tail is completely destroyed. so I removed the delta tail one and kept the halfmoon in the aquarium. I don't own another aquarium or such so I just put the delta tail back in the container I bought it in. Now I don't know what to do about my Halfmoon, like how long it takes for it to grow back or anything. Here's a picture in the attached file. I hope someone can help me (>-<) please!

Betta can survive with injured fins, as long as your water quality is good. When was the last time you tested? What are your parameters? How often do you do water changes?
The delta may struggle in the container you bought it in, especially if there is no heater/filter, as ammonia will build up quickly. If you're worried about the girls fighting each other, you may want to get a tank divider to separate them.

Hi! Welcome to the forum.

You really need about a minimum of five female bettas together to help spread aggression. Otherwise they're one dominant one who picks on the submissive one and the poor girl doesn't get a break. If I were you, I would invest in another tank for the halfmoon or buy a bigger thank and get more females. Alternatively, rehome one of them.

In answer to your question about fins, they regrow quite quickly if given the correct water conditions. I had a rescued betta who had been chomped by a cichlid of some kind and had literally no fins left at all, two weeks later he was already much better.

You should not be keeping 2 females in a 5gal tank. If you are trying for a sorority, the tank needs to be much larger, preferably a 20gal long and you need more females to spread aggression.

They need to be separated. You can get a tank divider and keep one on either side, but it is best to get another tank IMO. They will not get along, no matter how many times you try re-introducing them. Are you floating the other betta that's in the cup in the tank to keep it warm? You might want to get a breeder basket to put the other female in until you can get another tank or divider.

The tattered female will be fine so long as you keep the water clean to prevent infection.

Thank you all for your responses! I will be sure to constantly monitor the water parameters so that the fish will do well. I will also be sure to get another tank! Thank you again so much!!!

A while back My sister had a betta that she abused. Never cleaned the tank, changed filter media, or anything for the 6 month peroid it was alive. Had so many sicknesses I decided to quarantine the fish in a 10 gallon. I forgot to remove the underwater pump and the betta got sucked up and shredded into a million pieces. It was still alive, but not for long. Had to give it the old nemo flush. nasty!
