Help! Angelfish With Camallanus Worms !!

I'm fighting the same fight right now. I got a new angelfish from petco (will NEVER do this again), quarantined it before adding it to my established tank. Thought we were good to go... the nasty thread-like bugger decided to show its face. Now I know better to quarantine for 4 to 6 weeks now instead of two.

I had a question in regards to the treatment, I am treating with levamisole hcl, and am wondering when and how often I should be feeding the fish during treatment. I have read to add de-shelled peas to help the fish pass the worms, but am not sure how long to wait before feeding the peas. Also, I have read to do a water change after the third day of treatment, but have read all sorts of different percentages. I'm thinking wait three days and then 30% to 50% water change.

Sorry to hear about your experience at petco These worms are horrible to our fishy friends. I hope you don't have a large population of fish with the angel because they'll all need treatment. Feed them 3-4 times a day during treatment to keep their digestive system working. You want to keep them pooping as much as you can. Unless they're constipated the peas aren't necessary, just feed them what they most like to eat. And Do not treat for 3 whole days, only 24 hours are needed to expel the worms. More than that is really hard on your fish. After that a 75% water change and add in a carbon filter to clean out the rest of the 25% of levamisole treated water.

Thanks for the info! Finally got the medicine in the mail. Been feeding them to get them to poop, and have successfully seen the worms expelled from some of the fish in the tank, but am finding two worms holding on strong to the poor angel fish. It even seems the worms in her are not paralyzed. Continuing treatment for one more day to see what happens. All the fish seemed very stressed by the medication at first, but all seem to be doing better now. We will see how everyone is doing in the morning. The question now is what to do with the angelfish if, comes tomorrow, she still has the worms hanging out of her? Should she removed, quarantined and re-treated by herself?

Unfortunately I did have a nicely stocked tank of tetras and a little albino pleco, but like I said, it does appear they are all doing all right.

When the worms are hanging out, they are laying eggs. That's why they have left the safety of their feeding grounds. So moving her does no good.
I treated for a week, did a huge water change, waited 2 weeks and did it all again for the eggs that would have hatched. That did it here.

Some worms are definitely paralyzed, but it seems the ones in the angelfish are not. Does this mean the treatment is not strong enough, or do I just need to treat for longer?

It looks like you started treatment just yesterday. Give it time. If you have used the recommended dosage, it should work. It seems to me that when I used it (I freely admit a long time ago), the main action took 3-5 days to show. My understanding is the worms died before then, but man, did they come out after 3 days.
I also had to treat once and made fenbendazole food, and it took took several days.

Crazy question. The Angel fish still has a bunch of Camallanus worms hanging out. Has anyone tried to put the Levamisole power directly on the worms for a very short amount of time, out of the water? I don't want to hurt my Angel but I'm worried she doesn't have long to live without immediate results.
