Help! Angelfish hanging at surface & not eating

Hey guys, so today my Angelfish has been acting really strange & im scared he’s going to pass. He’s been hanging around the surface & he didn’t eat. He seems really out of it & i’m wondering what’s going on. please help.

The very first thing I reach for if I see anything off is my water change equipment. I know you said parameters are good. Does that mean 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites. How high are your nitrates? When did you do your last water change and how much did you change?

 

My nitrate is at 10-20 ish. I did a water change this morning, but a tiny one. I did about 20-25%. Added salt, checked again. He’s still hanging at the top of the surface

Is there a particular reason for adding salt? Do you normally do weekly water change. If so how much do you change each week? If you have been doing your weekly water changes then I highly recommend you change out no less than 50% of the water now and don't replace the salt.

 

How is the water flow on the surface? The surface of the water should be rippling to allow gas transfer. My fish did that same thing when I had a bad bacteria bloom that was using a lot of the tanks oxygen.

Plenty of flow, I have the sponge filter, & hob filter going. As well as minimal bubbles out of the bubble bar. So it’s pretty good in there. But could it be too much?

 

I doubt it is too much. I am not well versed with angelfish in terms of health issues, but if your water parameters are stable and there isn't an aggressive tankmate, I would look into angelfish diseases. Loss of appetite makes me think internal parasites. Hard to say without knowing the fish for awhile

 

What kind of substrate do you have? How are the other fish doing?
