It looks to be some sort of worm. I would do a search in the search bar at the top left of the forum.

Also, how old is your Oscar? He will get too big for your tank.

hmm.. not sure what they are, but as a general rule if it isn't on your fish it probably isn't hurting them. It might be detritus worms. Try vacuuming the substrate, and swishing the filter-cartridges through tank-water and not feeding for a couple days to get rid of the possible food supply.

I do not think it neither a planaria or detritus worm. because these worm are like the size of a grain of rice. I have looked and clearly it is not a planaria and cannot possibly be the detritus look pretty long and like I said earlier it is like a grain of rice

please can anyone tell me what they are? I am planning to do a 100% water change then put boiled water into the tank and thinking that might kill them? any suggestion on how to get rid of it? remember I have sand not gravel.

it does look like planaria to me...and usually its from over feeding (I'm so guilty of that) and are harmless....the way to rid them is vacuums and many water changes....

I agree with Shawnie. Looks like planeria. Had them in my 20gal, planted Betta tank a while ago. A couple good vacs with wc and less food did the trick in less than a week.

sorry for the long reply but how do I keep my oscar tank clean? if you owned an oscar you would know that they are very messy eaters. I want his main staple of food to be pellet but when he eats them he will spit some of the pellets out of his gills thus making the tank not clean. any advice?

Hello There - I have an Oscar tank to, I also have two Parrot Fish and a BonsaI Kilin Flowerhorn. You might consider putting a Parrot Fish in with him. They get along very well and the Parrot Fish's mouth is so constricted that he cleans up the Oscar left overs as he eats, you know what I mean.... food flying everywhere.

THe other thing is that I simply vacuum his cage every day and at the least every other day. I have more fish than you in a 60. I also learned to CUT BACK ON THE FOOD. Oscars allows look like they are starved, they are like dogs. But if you over feed him you will just end up with a lot of poop in your backyard. If you have an Oscar you know what I mean. I know it is a lot of work, but I vacuum at least every other day if not everyday and do a 25% water change everyday. I came up with a system of sticking the hose in the window and syphoning the water right out the window. Oscars are just a lot of work. And for anyone who is reading this, I am upgrading to a 100 for my growing fish.
