I have a small school of 10 (now 7) zebra danio. Over less than 24 hours ive had 3 die off two looked healthy the third im including pictures of. My tank parameters today are 7.0 ph. Had a 1st ammonia test read 2.0 but noone in the tank seemed effected and my fluval ammonia tag reads less than .02ppm, second test still puts ammonia at 1-2ppm. Nitrates and nitrites are 0. I feed every other day and i feed last night. Only food i used last night that was diffrent was some flakes. My other fish including corys, cuckoo cats and dwarf gourami are all fine noones gasping. Did a double dose of prime and some api quickstart to help with ammonia. Had a problem last week where i forgot to unplug filter during a water change and regular chlorinated tap cycled through the filter and i had a small nitrite and nitrate spike but again dosed the same i did today and have been testing daily since and all parameters went back to 0. Only additions to my tank in stock in the past month was four assassin snails and 10 zebra danio and i rehomed 3 of four flame gourami. Please help my tank had already been cycled and i dont want my tank to die

Prime is awesome stuff, but it shouldn’t be used as a substitute for water changes, including double or triple dosing it IMO.

Thank you, will do! I cant think of whats doing it though other than the water change misshap i had. But i saw nitrates and nitites spike first on that so i though the ammonia eating bacteria was ok. I hope i didnt really royaly screw up -_-

I was just going to say big water changes are best way to get it down at the minute.

Providing the water you are doing changes with doesn't have ammonia in it too.

Sounds like something may have been knocked off balance somewhere along the line.
Hopefully the bacteria will catch back up soon but I feel water changes are the only thing to keep the fish safe for now :)

Yeah i had another danio die while i was working hut everyone else is ok so its strange plus my api master kit is saying its about 1-2 ppm so im alittle dumbfounded. I think it was my tap water and not dosing my tank with prime until after i filled the tank but filter was running so therefor sucking up a bunch of chlorinated water. Thought it was ok when when the nitrates and nitrites spiked but then all parameter shot to 0 except ph. No ammonia spike out of left feild almost a week later. I dose with CO2 daily and flourish weekly. Only other thibgs in my tqnk regimine that i do. I would totally like some guesses so i dont repeat this. I really do love my fishies
Tank is also alot cloudier now too.

Did a roughly 50% change. Knocked the ammonia levels down to betwee. .25-.5 ppm ammonia

Just ran another test. Ammonia is at about 1.0 ppm. Nitrites just started going up now at about .25-.5 ppm. I think my tank is cycling again which stinks. Had another danio die off too. Down to 5 now. Tank is waaay lesd cloudy today as well. What do you people think about changing my filter media its scheduled for monthly carbon and floss filter replacement but i dont know if i should mess with it while the tanks in a volitile state? Opinions on the matter are welcomed please :)
