Help - Am I Under-filtered??

Hello everyone
I need some advice please.

I'm concerned that the fish I've just added to my 180L / 47 gallon long, have left the aquarium under-filtered.

Filter is Eheim ECCO pro 200 - filters at 600 litres per hour.

AqAdvisor says I now have only 75% of the required filtration capacity.

Here's my stock:

Betta Splenden X 1
Harleys X 6
Rummys X 6
Cardinals X 6
SterbaI Corys X 6

Just added:

Swordtails females X 4
Starlight Bristlenose Pleco (juvenile) X 1

LFS says the filter is adequate!

Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi, a good rate of filtration is 4 x tank capacity or over so in your case 180 x 4 = 720 lph. IMO I'd up the filtration as you've added a plec & they are all poop machines with high bio-loads.

I believe in over filtration. I have read your filtration should be between 4 to 10x the tank size. I have a 75 gallon tank with Peacocks and I use 2 Emperor 400's water stays clear. I also have a 55 gallon that has approx 600gph. Not that I suggest you follow my lead but with overfiltration in my case the 55 gallon the amount of fish in this tank is completely over stocked.
10 Giant Danios
5 Serpae Tetras
4 Threadfin Rainbows
12 Black Tetras
10 Neons
!pr Orange Flash
1pr Kribs
6 asst. Corys
6 Rasboras
4 Pearl Gouramis
few others by rights I should have major problems with water quality a bio load that is way too high but as it stands all the fish are healthy plants are doing well ammonia and nitrites at acceptable levels and I also do once a week water changes.

I, like nwf477 I over filter.
In my case I have two identical Tetra external filters. The reason I bought two was to hold just one set of spares i.e. motor rotor, taps and rubber rings (seals). This approach makes for a redundant filter system that overfilters the tank.

Overfiltering has its pros and cons:
Pros: cope with overstocking, cope with ammonia spikes, gives a solid water flow within the tank
Cons: tends to break down some of the nitrates, so even though I don't have to do water changes that often, my plants don't get to feed on the nitrates, so I have to add quite a bit of plant ferts and CO2.

Like I wrote its way overstocked but everything is healthy in the tank.

I’m also a fan of over filtering. I have a 90 gal and I’m moving 1000gah. 40 fish in tank. The more filtration the better.

Thanks for the advice and shared information guys - great as always.
I now have the parts to put together a Juwel Bioflow internal filter. It has a 600 lph pump.
The only drawback is the asthetics - would spoil the look of the aquarium IMO!
