How many fish do you have in there? How much do you feed them? How much light does your tank get?

Yeah, too much food and light would do it. Only feed your fish what they can eat in 5 minutes, and try not to give the tank more than 12 hours of light per day.

If you don't want to wait for the algae to die off or clean it yourself, consider getting an apple snail or a nerite snail. They love to eat algae, and both need special conditions for breeding that are not found in the average tank.
