HI I am a new tank owner, I've been running my tank for like 2 weeks, is a 10G tank, I have 1 platy(Female) and 3 mollies Dalmatian(Female), Black(Female), and Orange(Male)
Suddenly my Dalmatian molly started to shake next to plants and other fish and swim like crazy, but the other fish seem normal. I don't know what she has, She likes to be next to my Java fern. HELP!

Is this a cycled tank? I’m guessing no if it’s only two weeks old? Can you check your parameters?

Hmm, maybe a mating behavior then? Is she swimming and eating fine?

Yes she is eating fine and everything but she won't stop shaking, that's it.

Does she look pregnant? A lot of questions I know, just trying to maybe spot something.

Its ok if you ask question I want to learn more Thanks.
The belly is flat, looks like the other female fish. I also read that she might be having the fry in a week if she is shaking, but she doesn't look pregnant.

Odd, I’m sorry I’m not more help. Hopefully a pro will chime in soon. Try getting a video maybe.

You have overstocked your tank wayyyyyyy too much! Not even one molly can fit in a 10 gallon. She is likely stressed. Which means she is more prone to diseases.

But went I went to the aquarium they said that I could have 3 mollies and max 5 fish, so, what should I do?

Sounds like your fish is having a seizure.
So she is going to die?

to the Aquarium? They just want your money. Most fish stores don't care about the fish. They just want to get paid. I would take all of the mollies back.

No, my cat has seizures which is VERY rare n cats but he never dies. Look up "fish having seizure" and let me know if that looks like how your molly is acting.
edit: But you have to protect their body from crashing into other things.

How do I stop the Seizure? So if she dies is it ok with 2 mollies and 2 platys?

Stress is definitely an issue for some fish, never listen to what the pet store tells you, they see dollar signs. I must say I had 3 balloon mollies and two swordtails in a 10 gallon for almost two years, huge no-no. Some fish handle things way differently though. Glad someone else is chiming in now...

Yes she is having a seizure because she's being shaking for like 5 hrs. But I don't want to stress her more, What should I do?

You really can't. Just got to protect the fish and make it fish friendly. Also, I already said no mollies can be in a 10 gallon as each one can grow up to six inches in length.

Hello El.Kevin

If possible, post your water parameters. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, and temperature.

If your molly is having spasms, it can be from 2 things: poor water quality or a condition called "the shimmies", which is a neurological disorder livebearing fish get when the water they are in is too soft. Mollies, while adaptable to freshwater, are naturally brackish fish. They prefer water that is hard and alkaline. If the water conditions are not alkaline, it starts taking a toll on their bodies from the water being too soft and acidic. They do much better in brackish or even full saltwater to be honest, and if keeping them in freshwater you need to ensure they have an alkaline, hard water environment.

However, it could also be from poor water quality. Too small of a tank and lack of knowledge of the nitrogen cycle probably means they are experiencing issues from elevated levels of Ammonia and stress.

Thank you, so you are saying that I should add little of salt for them to be in the perfect conditions? To make the water less soft?

API Aquarium Salt may help, 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons is recommended. Crushed coral in the filter will also raise your water's hardness and alkalinity, which is better than just dosing salt.

You should, however, make testing your water to see where it stands the #1 priority though.

If possible I'd just return the mollies.
