Heater Woes

So right now I've got a 100 watt heater in my 20 gallon tank. When it is heating there is a indicator light on, and the light is barely ever on. Right now it is only heating up to 74 Fahrenheit, and I know the water should be at about 78-80 degrees. So I can only assume that I need a new heater; only question is should I get another 100 watt heater or should I go higher?

I keep it like 65 degrees.

100w should be good for 20degf rise.
150 or 200w would give more in reserve

If its a dial type the numbers on the heater are never right. I would try adjusting it a little at a time till you get it were you want.

Yeah I've got it turn all the way up.

If its turned up and the light hardly comes on I would say its shot. Beings your room is on the cool side a 150 watt would be the way I would go.

I ended up buying one of these in 150 watt...

That should work. I don't really like preset heaters but they do what they are supposed to do.
