Heater question, betta, 10 gallon, filter

This weekend I want to purchase a tank to eventually upgrade my betta to a 10 gallon and would like to use my currently unused 100 watt heater. Is that safe? Also what filter is best to use for a betta? I know they like no to low currents. Thanks. Sorry I ask a thousand questions!

I think it's safe to have a 100 watt heater on your tank. I have one in my 10 gallon tank because that's the only spare one I had since the other one broke. It does keep the water pretty warm so I suggest keeping the heater on low. As for the filter, maybe a whisper filter? It seems like those filters have slow currents. Or you can try a different one. You can just put a piece of sponge at the end of the filter to slow the current a little bit. Hope this helps

I'm glad you're upgrading your betta! I'm sure he'll love the space.
A 100W heater is a lot for a 10 gallon. Usually 50W is the recommended wattage. You could just get a 20 gallon instead Make sure it's a 20 long, though. Otherwise, I recommend putting the heater in the tank and letting it sit a few days without the fish so that you can see if it would overheat the tank or not. If it's an adjustable heater that turns itself on/off, it may very well work. Be sure you keep an eye on it, though, especially on the hot days in summer.
For a filter, I highly recommend the aquaclear 20. I have 2 on my 10 gallons, and love the ease of use, customization, and simple design of them. With few decorations in a 10 gallon, the current can be a bit strong, but putting a big silk or live plant in front of the outlet and ensuring that there are many dead spaces in the tank is a good solution. You can also make a baffle out of filter sponge or an unwashed water bottle. I've also heard of people breaking of 1 prong on the propeller, but I have never done this, so I recommend more research on replacement parts and the functionality of the filter afterwards. On a 20 gallon long, I can imagine that the filter would be just right (also ensuring that there are some decorations to break up the current). It's pretty easy to tell if your betta is getting pushed around by a current, and it's pretty easy to fix.
The downside of the whisper filter is the cartridge. It contains both the BB and the carbon, so in order to replace your carbon without ruining your cycle you have to get creative. Other than that, though, I used 2 for a month on 2 10 gallons with 1 betta in each, and they run great. They're quiet and effective, but they will probably need a baffle, especially when the water level is lower than the outlet.
Never apologize for asking questions--it's what the forum is here for! I hope this info helps!

So I'm pretty sure I can't adjust my heater unless I'm just airy...which is a possibility.

Is it still safe to use?

Can you post a picture of the heater from a few angles? What is the brand/name of the heater?

It's not adjustable, but it has great reviews on Dr. Foster and Smith. I have never used the 100W model, and by the reviews, it seems to be great. I did use the 25W model, though, and it would heat the tank to 74* then turn off for four days.
It seems ridiculous to go out and buy a new heater when you have one, so I say plug it in and see if it works. Make sure you have a reliable thermometer in there, and let it run for a few days before deeming it safe.

I have that heater on my Tetra tank! Never had any problems, and it keep the temp at 78 F which is good for bettas. On time I accidentally touched it and it was pretty hot but I think it would be ok.

How many gallons is your tank? The heater is a 100 watt and I wanted to use it on a 10 gallon and it's a bit overkill. I'm worried it will boil my betta. I'm just going to try it while I do a fishless cycle.
