Heater Malfunction

Came home from vacation to find my heater had apparently malfunctioned and cooked all my fish. Water was above 100 degrees.
How do I go about the clean up? What is safe to use to clean everything. I have a sand bottom can it be used again? If so how do I clean it?

I inherited the tank from my son, I have knowledge in being able to maintain the water and feed the fish, but no knowledge to handle this type of mess.

Any info will be appreciated

Take all the water out and then refill it. There isn't much to clean since the heater didn't explode or something like that, and its the heat that killed the fish, not disease. Then put the heater in a box, tape it shut and throw it out, cover it in cement, whatever you want to do with it and get a new heater that isn't the same brand as the heater that malfunctioned.

Yes, just do a thorough gravel vac and as much water change as possible.

Eheim Jaeger heaters are very reliable. Always get the smallest heater as possible to avoid a nightmare like that.
Sorry for your loss, how sad and terrible

Only had a 100W heater on a 30 gallon tank, not sure why it cooked the fish. Most times it was turned up as high as possible to maintain 74 to 76 degrees. Could I need a 150W heater instead?

I have finally got the water emptied, as much as possible and remainders of the dead fish, cleaned the glass and refilled the tank. The remains that I could not get out will they gradually decay? Do I need to cycle the tanks testing the water every few days? By the way the old heater that fried the fish was a Tetra.

Thank you
