Heater lost power temp dropped

Lobsterman

i have a fresh water 55g tank with assorted community fish usually keep at 27c. the heater was connected to a smart plug which appears to have bit the dust and the heater lost power. for some reason i didn’t get an app notification that the smart plug was offline. a family member was checking the fish today and noticed the water felt cold. found the heater was off and the current temp was only 18c.

all the fish are still swimming but i’m pretty sure they’re not happy.

the heater is reconnected to power and the temp is back up to 20c. i set it at 21c because i didn’t want the temp to shoot up too fast it’s a 500w heater.

how slowly should i bring the temp back to normal, was thinking 1 degree every 12 hours?

Going warmer is not a problem if you do it slowly.

I would go up to 23, then 25 the next day then 27. It’s probably not even necessary to wait that long but better safe than sorry.
