I ordered a aqueon 50 watt preset heater for same day delivery from the pet store I hope I got something decent enough to replace my two small underpowered heaters.
I just received my order my heater looks fine so far packaging doesn't look beat and I opened the thermometer I got and set it up Idk how to go about setting up the heater because, I dont have a extra tank to test and submerge. my tank will get colder tn then what the thermometer reads now I think.

I know the feeling. Just had to upgrade to a better heater this winter because it's been so cold that the heat in my drafty apartment as well as the tank heaters can't keep up.

I usually just rinse it in conditioned water/old tank water (if you're doing it during water change time). Those heaters are usually set at about 78 degrees F. I put them nearly the intake of the filter so that the current pushes the warmer water through the tank. I put the thermometer on the opposite side of the filter so that I can tell how well the heat is actually being dispersed.

didnt test it yet Im a scaredy cat but I was thinking of placing it horizontaly by my filter as far as placement it says it can be vertical or horizontal.

I keep telling myself its not glass and it not likely it will shock me

I would just plug it in and see if the red light turns on. If it does, unplug it pretty much right away. It heats up pretty fast, so it should actually be a little warm after you unplug it, even if it's only been a few seconds. I've never had issues with Aqueon heaters and have owned several in the past, so it should work as expected.

Maybe I will wash my hands, turn off my current heaters do my water change wash it in the water change water and turn it on in the bucket with the water and see then finish my water change and put the heater in the tank tn and just keep a eye on it the first hour or so? Also Ive heard you should always submerge heaters an hour before you turn them on?
