heater and filter for discus
do discus need heaters. if so please tell me . also tell me which is the best filter for my discus. also do they need specialised needs and cares and food to maintain their lovely beautiful colurx
Discus are tropical fish, so yes, they do need heaters.
I believe Discus like it rather hot, so yes, a heater is needed.
They can also be quite picky, as far as I've heard. Meaty diets should do the trick for keeping them colorful.
Yes Discus like mid 80's F. The best filtration possible is recommended or Discus. I would say a powerful canister or sump filtration. Mostly depends on what size tank.
I had Discus for several years and they are beautiful fish and very colorful as well. They do like warmer water temps as others have said. One real important thing is clean water. Make sure you have plenty of filter on there tank to really keep the water in pristeen condition. I always over filter all my tanks. I also use an internal powerhead to keep water moving inside the tank assuring proper filtration. Make sure what ever size tank you have not to overstock the tank. They can get quite large when fully grown. I had a 75 gallon and had 6 in it and that was enough. I feed mostly frozen foods. I am sure others on this forum have discus and can also give you advise on them.
