Have you ever hated one of your fish?

I have one fish in my community tank that I find myself hating. Not a good mom, I know!

It's the biggest Rasbora and dang that fish is a greedy, bully. It races around chasing all the other Rasbora all the time. When I feed, it grabs EVERYTHING it can not giving anyone else a chance to get some (so I have to make sure I put food all over the tank to give the shyer fish a chance at one piece while greedy guts has eaten 7 or 8 pieces or more)

This morning I was giving them some peas, all chopped up fine so everyone could have a piece. Greedy Bully raced around grabbing so much that it's mouth was stuck wide open and I could see all the green pea in there.

I found myself thinking, "I hope you choke, you greedy git!"

I wouldn't say I hate him but sometimes I would like to take my male arutaus out of the tank and pop him on the head for tormenting the female, I think she is holding again, and he is doing a number on her fins. can't wait to get two more females to put in the tank.

While hate is a strong word, yes I have diliked some fish. Of course they are no longer in my tank.
I had a CAE I couldn't stand, but yet paid an arm and leg to ship to KS for a better home. Go figure?! I had 2 platies I couldn't stand, big bullies. They have a new home too. Is she prego? Might explain it? But ya, it's nature, the survival of the strong, etc.

think it was prob a feeling of guilt for hating yr CAE that made you pay so much to ship him..that or you wanted to make CERTAIN he wasn't coming back lol

Are platies usually bullies the? LFS said theyre as hardy and placid as Danios....then again LFS says a LOT of things that are complete tosh!

well for me, I HATED my bloodfin tetras that I had with my Bolivian ram and cories, they terrorized them so much, lots of nipped fins, I would never get them again

maybe I'll get my revenge and get one for a feeder fish for my Oscar *giggles*

Never hated a fish in my life. I've hated myself for not choosing the right fish for the tank I was putting it in though. If a fish is too aggressive or whatever for the tank I put it in, that's not the fishes fault, it's mine for not doing enough research or taking too big a chance.

I don't think so. No one that actually knows me personally would ever say I'm a saint, more like the devil reincarnated. > Give me the right subject & a very free speaking forum & you soon see my horns start growing.

No, can't say I have hated or disliked a fish..... I do get a bit irritated with my Tiger Barbs when I clean the tank because they insist on swimming into the vacuum!! I am constantly pulling it out to break the suction. Actually it is probably comical to watch but it usually involves me muttering a lot!! The Zebra Danios are no better really...... they swim into the large jug I use to empty their tank!!!

I didn't much care for my platy, she was always stealing the cory cats food, not eating it just stealing it and spitting it out so no one else could have it. And she tortured my mystery snail, every time the snail came out of it's shell and the platy saw, shed peck at it, so the platy was sent to live somewhere else.

I would say only the zebra danio that killed my white cloud. I haven't liked zebra danios since then. I had a platie that was the most cutest fish though, liked him so much! I wouldn't hate a fish unless it was really aggressive or kills one of the other fish.

I can`t say that I hate my honey gourami, but I was very upset when it attacked my yellow angelfish, I didn`t know that some people don`t mix gouramis with angels, but that just got me a new tank, so I forgave my honey gourami lol.

my black mollies are excally the same, they bully my dalmation mollies an awful lot I thought at first maybe it wus because she is pregnant but shes now had her fry and her and the male are still chasing my dalmations I'm also considering taking them back to the store I don't want to but it carnt be helped. I somtimes find my self disliking these to fish wen I see my poor dalmations hiding out so much because of them.

Never hated any of my fish (haven't had enough to hate yet, lol), but I have taken care of some at my school, and because the teacher let people put whatever they wanted into whatever tanks, I inherited a tank with a pregnant molly, three red-tailed sharks, a herd of the meanest zebra danios ever, and an upside down catfish. The RTS were MEAN. Did I mention it was only a 15 gallon? Well, two of those RTS were out in a few days, in other tanks (where one of them later committed suicide). I swear the Danios nipped all of Dana (the UD catfish)'s fins off before he got sold.

I managed to get a nicer mix, mostly Cories and danios, but when the class ended I took home one of the cories, because the tank was just too full (and they do cycling with fish in that class, hence the Danios).

I really hated that RTS, though. Mean little bugger, especially when he had more than one of his kind in his tank. Granted, it wasn't his fault, but I still didn't like it.

Your RTS story is a classic example of fish not being kept properly....just sayin- can't hate a fish when they are kept wrong.

When I first set up my aquarium my red clawed crab was being a real turd, bullying my fish constantly. After about a month he died in the process of molting and my new crab is much more friendly.

....then again LFS says a LOT of things that are complete tosh!

Yeah I know about that! the LFS told me that a beautiful red clawed crayfish I had been looking at would be fine with my planted community tank.

That's the closest I've come to hating a fish.

Needless to say he was very badly behaved, eating plants and fish and making a home by hollowing out a moss ball that I had been growing for 6 months! He went back to the shop in very short order.

Its my own fault for not doing my own research and taking the word of the people in the shop. Lesson learned.

... I think my problem is getting too attached. Then again, I haven't had any issues with them so far. None have killed plants or attacked each other too viciously. (I did have some Danios in a tank too small for them and they quarrled... but nothing damaging as far as I could tell. They're in a larger tank of my friend's now.)

I might have loathed my zebra danios and gouramis, but don't think it reached the point of hate. As my nephew said when he was 2 and overheard his mother and I talking "Auntie Lynda, hate is a very strong word." Ahhhh, out of the mouths of babes.....

I'm with the others. You get a fish or species that doesn't work out. You rehome it. End of story.

I have a Molly that's a bit of a bully. When she gets bad, I move her to the quarantine tank for about a week. Usually after that, she's real pleasant for a while.

Sometimes I hate my Oscar for nipping me when I don't expect it, but it's kind of the same scenario as a dog tracking mud in the house.

I have a breeding pair of Tomatoe clowns I'm not crazy about, esp. the female. She's a food hog, thinks every anemone in the tank is hers. She makes if really hard to spot feed my anemones taking any food I give to them.
