Has anyone tried this experiment before?

I took two test tubes, filled it to the 5ml mark on the apI test tubes with aquarium water (cycling two tanks at the moment) and performed the nitrite test. It came back as 2ppm and 5+ ppm. I then put a few drops of seachem prime into each tube and they both eventually turned blue! Does this little experiment prove that seachem prime detoxifies nitrites so that the test sees it as 0 ppm?

No. The regen chemicals break down. That's why it says wait × amount of time.

Also I think when Prime is added it binds to the ammonia and nitrites making them still present but not toxic to fish upto a certain point. I believe 1ppm of ammonia and nitrites.

So you added drops to the vial until it cleared ?
That would be like adding ounces to a tank ?
Maybe I am not visualizing this right but it sounds like a VERY high amount of Prime would be needed .
Possibly a level above recommended ?

I believe you can safely dose x5 the recommendation for prime
