AOL stands (stood) for America On Line. It was the biggest internet provider for many years.

They're still around. My friend started a company that was bought out by them years ago and he became one of those dot com millionaires.

I remember my CD rom popping open on it's own and I screamed thinking the computer was possessed. I'm sure somebody somewhere got a good laugh out of it.
I did have a good laugh

I actually did some light hacking back then when it was much easier. It helped when I had to design networks with IDS/IPS (intrusion detection/protection systems). So my misspent youth wasn't totally misspent.

I had an account with almost every service available at one point or another, mostly for work. I set up a Juno account for many friends that thought the internet was still a fad. I kept a Mindspring.com acct mainly for the email address until I got my own domain about 15 yrs ago.

This post has made me feel old in a way that I haven't in a while. lol I was talking about a/s/l as an adult, not a 6th grader. I spent most of my 20s using dial up. I was using CompuServe and AOL chatrooms and had a Hotmail email account. Yes, you needed a CD-rom to use the internet.
37/F/California. . Now stop making feel old!

No, I haven't met anyone from here. I am fairly new here and I live in the devils rear end of California.....Fresno. hahahahaha.
I still have my Hotmail email account. It's not my main one though.
I used Juno for a while and who remembers NetZero?
I remember when the number one search engine was Yahoo. Then it was Yahoo, powered by Google. Then they had a falling out and Google went out on their own and everybody thought that was the end of them. Times certainly do change.

How about Earthlink?

Well after 2 seconds I realized what had happened but I was pretty dang startled. About a year or two after that incident I was chatting with a buddy of mine. A hacker was typing "I Love You" in his chat window and he took it as a sign from God. rofl

lol I still have a very active yahoo account. Many times I will log in and make the yahoo yodel sound. My kids think I'm nuts.

Since we're on the topic (sorry OP!) I have to share:

I plan on meeting up with some people on here...specifically the ones from the Greater Seattle Aquarium Society I just need to be in town on the meeting night AND let my husband know ahead of time that I'll be disappearing for the night
There are a few other people I'd LIKE to meet up with, but one is in Germany and the other I think is I think in Southern California? I might be headed down So.Cal. way this way this winter, so...maybe?
