Has anyone heard of a 23inch fluorescent bulb in an aquarium hood? I swear nothing about my tank is standard...

There should be a number on the bulb. Could you please post it?

yea, that's unusual if it's 23" since 24" is the standard. You could search for your bulb here, but if you could post a pic of the bulb so we could read the text on it, maybe someone here will know the bulb.

Does your current hood have a 23" lightbulb? If so, go to the place where you bought the hood and ask them where to buy such lightbulbs.
If it's absolutely impossible to find such a lightbulb, then I guess you'll need a new hood with some standard lightbulb(s). There are fixtures both larger and smaller than a 24" standard one. If your fixture is too small, you can always buy adjustment legs for the fixture and adjust the fixture over your tank however you want it.

Sorry guys... It turns out the bulb is 24 inches WITH THE PINS AT THE END... Oh well. I replaced the regular soft white with a Flora bulb from Petsmart, hopefully that'll be enough for the plants to grow.
