I have a 20 gal live planted freshwater tank that has run into a huge influx of green hair algae. I’m gathering several options for treatment, but we sell this item where I work and was wondering if it would work for algae that isn’t green water blooms. It wouldn’t harm my live plants which was a huge factor.

No it only works for zapping living things that are suspended in the water column.

If it doesn't pass through the machine and past the uv bulb it doesn't get zapped.

Zapping is the unscientific term for the disruption of essential life processes by the uv radiation which causes stuff to turn turtle.
