Has anyone had any luck with the Petco “baby bettas”?

I’m just wondering because I’m weighing the pros and cons of POSSIBLY getting a Petco baby betta when I’m ready to try another betta in my 10 gallon. I definitely will wait at least a couple months, to recover from the loss of two bettas in two months, and to focus on my 30 gallon and ecosphere/ planted fish bowl I’m going to make today with some extra materials I want to use. But, when I’m ready again, I think it would be kind of fun to try a baby betta and watch him/ her grow up in my little 10 gallon. Have these little guys worked out for anyone, or are they just too small/ sickly?

Had one a year or two ago, no different from the regular bettas except raising them.

I only buy pet o bettas. I’ve had to many fish get sick and die from their competitor (y’all know who it is ;) ). Idk if it is just the stores in my area, but Petco has not done me wrong yet. My last fish died because of me, I think. I had him in a small 3.5 gallon (it was a classroom pet and that was the max amount of gallonage I was allowed by the district). He lived in the 3.5 gallon for a year before he started showing signs of what I believe was fin rot and ammonia poisoning. His fins were red throughout and started to just waste away. He began being lethargic and eventually I brought him home and upgraded to a 5 gallon. Unfortunately, I may have been too late in upgrading. That said the school year prior I went through 4 competitor of Petco‘s bettas, including babies. I bought the babies thinking the other were old. Even though I believe my 3.5 gallon was not suitable for the betta, 4 in one school year compared to 1 the next, and all I did was change stores where I purchased the fish. Photos: bumble bee betta RIP; orchid betta doing fine in 5 gallons.

the baby bettas are usually unremarkable colors - like the drab purple red color - at least by me locally.

I've purchased a few, 3 were such colors, 2 others were crowntails. all but 1 were females.

Crowntail females have shorter bodies and it's very easy to overfeed them. I am not getting a female crowntail ever again. my current 1 causes me head aches. She's Archie Bunker with a beer belly in a fish tank *eye roll*

....assuming i am not the only one to get the Archie Bunker reference....though many sure won't!

I have no experience with baby bettas, but I got my betta from Petco as well.

Most of their betta stock looks very healthy.

I have a baby betta right now! I don't think it makes much difference to caring a adult betta. However, you can look at the growth! That is very exciting. I don't really know if it's just me but the one I'm caring right now isn't really aggressive. Here's the Pic.

I've had mine for almost 2 weeks now. It was labeled as a "baby boy" but I'm pretty sure it's a girl. Baby Mountain Dew is in a 10 gallon tank that I just added 1 peppered cory and 7 or so cherry shrimp to. It looked energetic and healthy from day one and has a fun personality. Aside from the mislabeling, I love this fish. And I just started noticing small blue specks coming in. I wonder how it will look all grown up.
