What are the best care tips for beginners plants and what kind are easy to care for? I just got 2 moss balls any advice on how to take care of them or needing liquid fertilizer for them? I am wanting to get Java fern or Java moss or both, and of course Hornwort I'm into how Hardy they are.I want plants that are hard to kill. Thanks,

I don’t think you need liquid ferts for moss balls. It doesn’t really curb their growth. Just make sure they get enough light. Also, I don’t use ferts for java fern or hornwort either. My “rule of thumb” is that if it looks dead (or isn’t growing) add fertilizer. Otherwise leave it be. Hopefully this helped.

Well, you picked some of the hardest to kill plants! Those ones don't really require fertilizer either.
The moss balls should be rolled around every now and then to maintain their shape, and if they're looking real bad, put them in the fridge overnight.
Java ferns cannot have their rhizome buried, but other than that, very easy to care for.
Java moss has a funky growth pattern, so most prefer Christmas or flame moss.
Hornwort is also very hardy, but it sheds needles and I find it harder to keep then anacharis, so personally I would go with anacharis instead.

I have had java moss survive in a tank without a light if that tells you anything but amazon swords are also a hardy plant they can grow in a low light aquarium.

Anubias is another good aquarium plant that I would reccomend getting. They pretty much known as living plastic plants, and seem to thrive on neglect.

Another plant I would suggest is bucephalandra, while pricey, they very hardy and also make good candiates.

Bolbitis would be another good option!

Ok cool they look cool the ones you told me about. Anymore good Hardy free floating plants? I'm hoping to get a 5 gallon soon for my Betta. he could have a buddy in with him (he's not aggressive at all to anything he's really sweet) what would be a good buddy for him? I'm not wanting in the tank a Betta a bottom feeder and a buddy for him. Thank you for all the advice you're really helping me!

Dunno if your talking to me... but I'll pretend it is and give my battered ego a little boost.

Good hardy floating plants? All of them tbh. If they have light, they do fine. Duckweed is probably what you want to stay away from, since it does a little too well, but other than that, good options include red root floater, amazon frogbit, salvinia and dwarf water lettuce.

Another good plant would be water sprite. This plant does well either planted in the substrate or floating, so they pretty versatile!

Crypts are another tough plant. There are many varieties so you can get a few which all look different. Limnophila sessiliflora has done really well for me. It looks pretty and grows fast.

With moss balls do not add Seachem Excel it will kill them.

I would council you to not get java moss. It is incredibly invasive. Go with something like Christmas moss.

3. Scarlet fern.

4. Java ferns are prolific and will give you a nice grove when properly cared for. The grove started with one plant over 6 years ago. I have to thin it every month.

And I have another question, when Bettas layon the ground that doesn't always mean there's a problem with them... Right?? Or is it because the air pump is too high? I did just get a air pump two days ago you think that might be the reason?

Anubias, Java Fern, Marimo Moss balls, and Java Moss are all good. I can't get Water Wisteria to stay alive and Hornwort does okay unless the temperature goes over 74. Then it just falls apart.
