HI I have been fishkeeping for 6-7 months and I am wondering what fish should I recommend to my neighbour( if he does get the tank!) He is thinking of a 10 gallon tank, do not know what substrate he will get or if he gets live or fake plants, I am also going to look after the tank for him and do the weekly water changes for him, srry for the vague infomation and will do another post if he gets the tank, chooses the substrate and choose fake or live plants, any ideas?

Bettas are always an option, you could do a split tank for two Bettas. There's also CPD's, pea puffers, ember tetras, shell dwelling cichlids, gudgeons, and more. If you know where to look, tens have quite a few options.
Edit: Pygmy sunfish are cool too.

He could do a split tank and get 2 bettas. I'd would get sand substrate- buy Pool filter sand which are bought in 50 pounds for less than $15 depending where you get it.

I have a 10 gallon with one betta but he could also do a split tank with two bettas.
