Hardness And Alkalinity Question

Whenever I check my aquarium water, the alkalinity and hardness levels are always very high. How do I lower the levels?

    You don't.

Most fish and inverts will be able to adapt to a huge variety of water conditions (especially PH, alk and hardness). Trying to change the number just causes it change very quickly, which causes more stress than the fish being kept in hard water.

There are a few species that will require softer water to do well, but they're few and far in between, and usually not commonly found.
