Hardest Decision Ever

I have a pleco. I love him, and I want only the best for him. Some people here have told me that I’m not giving him the best life possible and he need a bigger tank. I feel like a failure. So, I texted my friend who has a 100 gallon tank, and she said she can take him. She said she will get him driftwood, food, plants, caves, and more. She said she will let me help her re-decorate her tank before he goes there. I need advice on how to let go of him. I will miss him tremendously even though I go to my friends house a lot, and I’ll see him, but I will miss coming home from school and seeing him. But I will do whatever it takes to give my fish the best lives possible.

You are not a failure if you're willing to better their life! What kind of tank were they in? I had a clown pleco in a 5 gallon which was entirely too small from my understanding. But I also thought it was nice knowing the betta he shared the tank with had it back all to himself again.

It’s a 20 gal but I have lots of other fish with him. I know he’s going to a good home but I feel extremely sad that he’s leaving me. I love him so much. I’ve never felt this way about a fish, so it’s weird for me to say that I love him so much.

You are anything but a failure! Being able to do the hard thing and ensuring the best for him shows you are strong and willing to do what's right. In time you'll find yourself happy that he's going to be able to achieve his full potential in his new home, because of the good decision you made

Thanks you. At least my other fish will have more room. I know ,y friend will take good care of him. She’s very excited and she has other fish to keep him company. She’s already started preparing. I told her everything she needs to know about him and again, I know that she will take great care of him.

Yeah, common plecos get up and over 2 feet. And a 100 gallon tank isn't big enough honestly, but its WAY better than a 20. I wish pet shops would stop selling them. Theyre becoming banned in parts of the country now because owners have been releasing them into the wild.

My friend is going to get a 250 in a couple months.
