After years of talking about it I finally got my 40 breeder.

I just wanted a thread to track my tank.

Everyone is a little mad and my scape needs major work but I want to leave everyone alone a couple days to not add additional stress.

Also cloudy from the move and I'm out of polisher of course LOL anyway here's some first night pics.

Added a Bolivian ram (male??)
And a red honey gourami recently

Hope the bamboo shrimp pulls through he grabbed on the the net as I was pulling someone else out and hit the towel

Sounds awesome! What top did you go with?
I was just forced into moving mine. The leaving them alone for a few days is really hard. Do you have plants?

Thank you Its so fun to have so much room to play with!

I bought the piece for a shrimp tank because its full of nooks and tunnels but it was too big for that. Now I just have to figure out the perfect angle!

The is one of my very favorite things in the hobby so fingers crossed poor guy

I went cheap for now and picked up corrugated pvc plastic from home depot for $15 dollars and cut to fit until I can spring $70 for a glass top

Yeah I have a random assortment of plants but I definitely need way more in here than my 29 LOL

Its not the prettiest but it'll do the trick, keep fish and water in and let's light through. There is a trick to cutting it BTW!! I want yours to go better than mine. If your cutting across the bumps scissors work great but when you cut ALONG with the bumps parallel you score it with a blade and bend it. (There's YouTube videos for that)

Hmm I honestly have to look up what I currently have and I'll update.

I know for certain:
Pink flamingo crypt
Crypt spiralis
Amazon sword (very small currently because I cut from my original sword)
Anubis nana
Some other anubis

The rest I have to look. Sometimes my store throws in random little stuff.

I know for sure I'm adding a water Sprite
And bacopa because I love it in my bfs 125
Also maybe a temple?

Ill check names and be more accurate in the morning it's been a long day of tank swap

Ill also post a pic of the ones in my bfs tank to show why I want them

Thank you! I really want to add to mine. Hopefully this is the last upheaval for a while.
I’m actually ordering some bacopa. Lots of it.
I just want stuff to grow.
You like the water sprite more than the wisteria? I had wisteria doing so wonderfully well. Then I messed it all up.

I will have to look into wisteria

Is yours a 40? Or? Either way I feel you! My 40 feels so under planted!

Yes. I had a 40 long. Finally. So easy for me to get into. But. Cracked. Luckily I had bought the 40 breeder. Couldn’t make my mind up for a long time. Kept meaning to take the breeder back. Even thought about selling it. But, luckily, never did. Talk about a fun night. Unfortunately it’s not been that long since I got the whI'm to change from white sand to black. So, my poor plants are unhappy. The swords will bounce back. The crypts I’m worried about. I’ve only had them a couple weeks I think. So we’ll see on them. The anubias don’t seem to care. I’ve heard the wisteria is a little heartier than the sprite. I know mine was really taking off. It was a gift too. But I managed to somehow pull it up and out. Still not sure how. Or how I didn’t feel it. But, it was a good three days before hubby asked what it was. On the floor. Dried to a crisp.

Do you have an exact name for the corrugated sheeting you used for the top? It sounds like exactly what I need, but I want to make sure I’m getting the right product. When I looked I found Suntuf corrugated polycarbonate roof panel; is that the sort of stuff you used?

you can make a mechanical water polisher with a maxI jet power head, plastic water bottle and poly fill.
I just made one a few days ago and it really cleared up my water.

Waters all clear! Still need to scape but everyone's loving all the nooks in the big piece on the right.

My bamboo shrimp molted and is out filter feeding so I think he'll pull through thankfully!!

Everyone has colored up nicely Although I'm not seeing the ram eat... not really sure what that's about....maybe ill try blood worms tonight...

Also I finally had success with zucchini, the snail and plec LOVED it, there was just the outer ring left!!

Wednesday is payday aaaaand that means fish day

Love the tank! It looks amazing. I know moving everything from one tank to another is stressful. I did that not too long ago and boy did I worry lol. I’m glad to hear that your bamboo shrimp, along with everyone else, is doing well

Congrats on finally getting your 40! Probably my favorite tank size, there’s so much you can do with that footprint!! Your baby albino longfin looks just like my Falkor did when he was young; hope yours brings you much joy.

I always forget how much of a process it is until I actually start. PLUS I had just added fish the day before because I didn't plan on upgrading for awhile. thank you my bolivian ate today when offered blood worms so that was another relief!

Did your move go smoothly??

Thank you I haven't quite decided what to utilize this footprint for yet but I'm excited to experiment!

I don't know if my plecs a (s)he but I love it so far, always munchin on something, SO CUTE! I can't believe I got this baby for free!

Its so much work but so worth it when you see the new bigger tank lol. Glad to hear the bolivian ram ate!

Both times I did, it went well. I just transplanted everything from one tank to another so it was pretty simple, just time consuming

Great looking tank!

I had a heck of a time stocking my Kuhlis. P. Oblongas (Black KuhlI or Java Loach) were easy to find but P. Kuhliis were almost impossible. It took about 4 months to stock 6 of them. One died a few weeks ago and I haven't seen any for sale the last few times I went to a few different LFS but I'll probably pick up a few more. I have 6 black and 5 banded kuhlis now.

I have a mix too because I like variety, but I've been pretty lucky with my lfs choices. I rarely have a hard time finding anything I want except cool snails.

The thing I would do differently is orange lemon tetra rather than normal lemons because 1. They're less common and
2. They're brighter

Buuuuuuuuut I don't have the heart to rehome them because I'm a softie

I didn't think I'd ever find P. Kuhliis so I got some P. Oblongas. I have a great selection of LFS within 5 miles of me. Even more if I expand to 10 miles but P. Kuhliis seemed to be hard to come by at the time and the ones available were sick (got columnaris in my QT from a batch). I had them years ago and were one of my favorite species so I had to have a tank that would house them.

You could always add a 2nd school of orange lemon tetras .

Love your avatar. I used to be a snowrat when I was younger but old bones don't do as well. I still try to take my nephew every year.
