Happiest "nano" Tank

With the sad passing of our new Krib (the day we figured out how to treat her)

Our 25 is now empty, cycled and ready to hold a freshwater nano community

*currently holds a couple cherry barbs, to keep the cycle, and 2 assassin snails from a tank that's being salted currently and all those random plants for the same reason lol*

For stocking we're currently thinking

-A shrimp colony.. haven't picked a color yet but will be added 1st to get established

-CPD

- Scarlet Badis

And
- 1 or 2 Borneo suckers

Only thing set in stone is a shrimp colony, still playing with other nano ideas and numbers. As always would love to hear others ideas, number suggestions, etc.

Scarlet badis and CPD will probably eat the shrimp. Amano shrimp may be too big for them to eat

Thanks for the input!
I've kept scarlet badis with shrimp before and they couldn't eat adults because they were almost the same size, they will definitely eat shrimplets though which I'm kind of counting on to help supplement their diet since they can be such finicky eaters.

I have not kept CPDs yet though

I have no experience with them, I just went off research I did when I was looking at both of those fish for my tank! I would say if you kept scarlet badis with them then the CPDs would be fine

CPDs are very small and cannot eat shrimp.

Are you meaning celestial pear danios? Celestials will not eat the shrimp, I have a tank with them and ammanos and neocardinia. They are pretty much the same size as the neocardinia so the chances of them eating them would be extremely small. At most they’d eat the shrimplets.

I was thinking they'd be like the badis and eat some shrimplets because of their tiny mouths lol

Hi, Cpd’s won’t go for adult shrimp though they will definitely go after the small ones

Peacock Gudgeons look super awesome and are really tiny. You could do at least 3, probably more in a tank of that size.

Thanks everyone we're all on the same page then!

Anyone want to throw out some numbers or other stocking suggestions/considerations?

Good to see Coradee is still around! I remember you from when I first joined the forum a few years ago!

I’m part of the furniture now lol
Am I right that this is a 25 gallon? If so then I’d have a large group of Cpd’s, the shrimp you want & (I know.... you’re thinking I’d suggest corys, but...) if you can find them a group of aspidoras.
I kept my Cpd’s with gold aspidoras, they’re smaller than most corys & I find them less shy too, I’ve recently got them again & it reminded me how fun they are.

I’d do-
20 cpd
3 badis(1 male 2 female)
10 Borneo suckers
Shrimp

Have you looked at dragon micro gobies? They seem very interesting and I’m planning to grab 1 or 2 for my own nano.

That must be what the crown by your name means lol
You are right it is a 25 gallon, also I LOVE those tiny babies, would aspidoras be what some places have labeled as pygmy cory? Or different?

My biggest stocking regret so far is that non of my tanks have a cory like fish because theyre so cute, but the 29 has kuhlis and the 125 has a bunch of jerks LOL

Thanks for an idea! I do love gobys in general and have always wanted a track with one, hmmm tempting lol

I had rcs, dario darios and CPDs in a 15 gallon years ago and it worked great. Even with the predation my shrimp colony continued to grow.

I still have the 10 gallon just waiting for the day I find some female dario darios. I'm waiting but there never for sale here.

I'd suggest against the borneo suckers, they do better on cool, fast flowing oxygenated waters which the other fish - and shrimp - may not appreciate.

So to start off we picked up 3Cpd, 3 scarlet badis and 5 blue velvet shrimp.

I already love this tank and get to watch a shrimp carry eggs for the first time you can even see the little shrimps inside the eggs, super cool!

Thanks for ideas guys! Still looking for aspidoras and gobys in person

Spotted our first shrimplet last week this tank is easy peasy to maintain but is in need of a scape at some point.

All 3 CPDS and Scarlets are still doing great too!
