Hands Dwarf Mbuna Build

Aqua Hands

so, I know, I know! This is the last blueprint. after dabbling in saltwater, fast moving current tanks, and puffers. This is the tank! (my uncles is still going on.) I love the look of Dwarf Mbunas and so does my dad. I'm tired of having my fish that just hide! I want a fish that will say "Hey! This is my tank! You just work for me!" I want a challenge that actually looks nice.
I am going to get Dwarf Mbunas I have no Idea on how many but maybe about 3-5 depending on your guys opinions.
Tank: 29 Biocube
Substrate: Sand
Decor: Dragon Stone and maybe some spider wood
Fish: Giraffe Cichlid
MalawI Eyebiter
Protomelas Steveni
Red Empress
Bumblebee cichlids
SAE
leave a comment of what you think.
Edit: ratio of 4:1 male

Your tank is not close enough to being big enough for even one of those species, let alone all of them.

honestly Idk, I can't go out every week and buy distilled way because of my dad so I need something that can live in a PH of 7.8-8.2. that's why I'm giving up the idea of copying my uncle.

Many fish are fine at your pH. I have soft water fish at a high pH, and they are doing very well. You just wouldn't want to put hard water fish in soft water.

What about something like this?

2x Peacock gudgeons
15x Ember tetra

I honestl don't like the look of tetras... maybe guppies of some sort?

Guppies would work, as would endlers. I would keep all males, so you're not overrun with fry.

I'm just going to get the *2 peacock gudgeon and *15 fancy guppies.

I'm going to get some otos because I can get all but the gudgeon at my LFS and I just found where I'm buying them lol. Aquaticart are in Indiana! #shopsmallish

I think 15 guppies is too many. I would go with 10 males at most at first, and see how that goes. Guppies can be mobby and obnoxious, and you don't want to overwhelm the gudgeons.

Hey Aqua Hands

Another suggestion would be apistogramma. They have tons of personality and are the smaller cousins of the Mbuna you wanted to stock. Just as vivid and full of personality. a trio of 1 male and 2 females would work well in your tank.

how long of a Jack Dempsey do you think I could keep? maybe up to 4 inches? because my LFS had a Dempsy hybrid that only gets upto 4 inches. I bought him. He's not even a 1/2 inch, The LFS owner, Logan said " the are completely passive, they do best with smaller fish like tetras and my kuhli" I 100% believe him and if I have to get rid of him within a year then so be it but this fish is beautiful. (Pics is in my hospital tank with had driftwood and is a blackwater tank.)

Hey Aquahands

I've never heard of a dwarf Jack Dempsy and I suspect it's either another species completely or the LFS has given you false information. If it's a juvI you will still need a 45gal tank and will need to research into stocking because Dempsys can be very aggressive. I'm sure someone with more knowledge on the species will be along soon to advise you.

How about this?
2 Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlids(Male/Female)
1 Rainbow Cichlid
8 Bronze Cories
10 Danios(5 Leopard 5 Zebra) or 6 Male Guppies
Temp.-75'F
The tank would have to have sand and be planted with a cave per Cichlid and a cave or two for the Cories.

In a 29 Gallon you can't do that many Cichlids, Cichlids are aggressive and territorial and need space. You could do a species tank and try breeding a single species.
You could try breeding Convicts, Rainbows, Apistos, Rams, or Angelfish.

Oscars can get 14" and would outgrow a 55 in around a year, They need a 80 Gallon minimum but bigger is better. If you plan on getting a 55 later on you can get a EBA, they get 4-5" and are interactive.

What about cockatoos? Could I get a trio? Tank mates?

Lance0414

Cockatoos would work, a Male/Female pair would do great in your tank, a trio with almost every Cichlid is asking for trouble as 2 will pair up and bully the third. How about this stock based around Cockatoos?
2 Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlids(Male/Female)
1 Rainbow Cichlid
10 Bronze Cories
10 Skirt Tetras
Temp.-75'F

This 29 gal isn't the same length as a regular 29 gal. It's a biocube, so it's only 20" long. Because of that, I would not go with Lance0414 's stocking.
