It's an excellent opportunity to do close observations to look for any kinds of problems they might be having. It also makes it easy to get them in and out of the tank. They're not afraid of you or things in their tank. When I got Copper out to do the surgery on her face, all I did was use a small container. She swam into it and I lifted her and the container up. No stress at all.

I would recommend anyone who has goldfish to train them for hand-feeding!
