There's a 10,000 acre fire less than an hour from me. I've been evacuated because of fire before, I know exactly what it's like.

It's beyond crazy dry here.

It's been in the upper 90s here for the past few days. Way too hot for up here. Our pastures are turning brown and our hay just might too. Pretty scary to think we might lose our hay. Today we had rain and an hour after it rained the ground was already dry from the heat. We've had to water our gardens like crazy and yet the plants are wilting. The horses are having a really hard time with it too. Strange how it's only been a few days and yet it seems like it's been like this for much longer than that.

I'm just glad it rained today... cooled off a lot! Still hot outside though. I'm thinking there won't be any fireworks allowed this year for the 4th.

4th fireworks canceled here as well.

Cichlidnut, I have a dear friend in Colorado Springs who had to evac due to the fire. Thankfully, he is back home now.

I use to live in Colorado Springs, I was stationed at Ft. Carson

Worst I've endured was back in 2009.

3 consecutive days above 109 (43C) in the lead-up to the Black Saturday Bushfires.

The heatwave that year set a record maximum temp for Melbourne at 115.5F (46.4C) on the day the fires started.

It's not uncommon for us to have days/weeks in the mid-high 90s, so I feel for all of you.

I'd easily swap our current weather (sub 55F) for some 90s anytime.

To all, stay safe, and stay sun-smart.

Good morning,

103 forecast for today with a heat index as high as 120.

Luckily we had a new AC installed past Thursday! Loving it! It's a MitsubishI and is working great!

If anyone would like to peel me some grapes, please feel free!

Luke, where in Maryland are you? I am in a suburb of DC in Northern Virginia, so depending on where you are in MD, we may be close enough to have the same weather often.

I guess I am going to have to buy grapes this year. My vines here are so dry, the grapes are not looking too good. Or maybe I can snag some of Ken's while he is not looking, bwhahahaaha.

Luckily I live in the country where I have well water(well, I suppose we are lucky NOW as long as it doesn't dry up ). Everything outside sprinkling range of my house is dieing, we haven't had rain in almost two weeks! It was a nice 106 degrees at 7 in the evening last night.
Oh and Dino, I don't have big enough tanks to take a dip (I don't think my tetras would enjoy me getting in their 25 gallon!) so I go and jump in the
alligator-infested river by my house to pass the
time.
Oh and did any of you know that the MississippI river was 67 feet deep last year, and now it averages at a grand total of six foot?

So that's where our heat went! Our norm is 100+ for the month of July and most of August. Yet, it is only 75F currently. And we never have too much humidity, yet we currently have over 50% humidity.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the lower temps. It is that humidity that I cannot take! Growing up, when we'd take family vacations to visit relatives in the mid-west I'd get sick. So, not dealing well with the humidity now.

I lived in SF for a couple of years, I do not miss the Richmond District or Sunset District where it doesn't even see the Sun. A little sun and heat is good. Now, I live near the beach.

I don't mind. It's nice to have some actual summer weather. It's been cold in New England this year.

Hey! Guess what happened right after I posted!!!!

So I go outside to get some "fresh air", when suddenly I begin to see A LOT of soot coming from the sky. I run around the house when of course the neighbor's property is on fire! Luckily, my parents and I were at home because the fire had crossed the fence and was burning on the opposite side of the pond from the house. We called the fire department and during the wait, we grabbed buckets and threw pond water onto the fire.
We later found out that the neighbors had left a fire burning(near three four-wheelers and several gas cans!) to go to the store, and when they came home they tried to put out the fire only to leave without calling for help when the water hose caught on fire!

Some pictures:

Yes, that's where it crossed the fence! You can't tell, but all the wood behind that line of trees in the picture was burnt to the ground.
