Halp! Koi Angelfish Eating BN Pleco Food

Hellos!

Our koi angelfish seems to be insatiable in regards to food consumption. We've held off on feeding for a day or two, here and there, because they will NOT leave the plecos wafers alone. Tried just feeding them both the wafers but the pleco never came down to NOM.

Found out that the primary market wafers are fish meal based. We did acquire some veggie flakes that have nettles as the first ingredient and have Top Fin kelp pellets on the way.

I'm still concerned for the plecos ability to obtain food as we try to pull the wafers since we don't want the angelfish to continue eating.

If your fish has eaten too much, what is the best way to deal with that?

We've hidden the wafers in a hidey hole and that seemed to work somewhat but thr angelfish has gathered the courage to pluck it out of its place. I also don't like leaving them in there for water quality.

Thank you! Much appreciation for your experience and knowledge!

Edit: Haven't tried the veggie flakes yet.

There is no way to get a fish to stop eating food that “isn’t meant” for them. Food is food, they’ll eat till it’s gone.

I suggest feeding the pleco after lights out. That way the angel won’t be able to find the wafers so easily in the dark.

You can also try foods that won’t be as appealing to the angel. Cucumber, boiled zucchini or yellow squash slices, deshelled frozen/thawed peas, etc. Plecos tend to love their veggies, my angel tends to ignore said veggies.

Edit: Figured that fish will not stop eating. Thank you for the validation.

Thank you, we have tried lights out feeding but usually is around our sleep times and am concerned with leaving the wafer overnight/theft that we won't be able to witness.

The pleco did love on some cucumber but have read that feeding them primarily as such could potentially steer them away from other essential nutrients(edit 2: protein). I'll definitely look into other veggie foods, as of course cucumbers have little nutrients.

Dont need to feed bn plecos. As long as you are feeding the angels the plecos will be fine

Awesome, I appreciate it. I had thought that may be the case but am happy to have verification. Thank you.
