First post, so please let me know if I leave out pertinent info.
Fluval V for a betta, with cermaic bio, no carbon, set up approx 3 months ago, caribSea Eco-complete substrate, lighting (that came with tank) about 7 hours.
Water parameters all good, except Phos 4.0- same as in my 28 gallon, which doesn't have hair algae (set up for about a year). Use tap water- Phos 0.5.
Added driftwood with F. fontanus, dwarf baby tears, and some rocks. Boiled the driftwood several times and soaked it for about a week. Then added Betta.
About 3 weeks in everything was covered in hair algae. Did the 1-2 punch with peroxide and CO2Booster, alage came back within a couple of days. Drained tank, threw plants out, cleaned everything with peroxide, and put the driftwood, rocks in the dark for 5 days. Didn't work. Nothing in the tank now but the rocks. 1-2 punch again, with total blackout for a week. Put the rocks back in, and hair algae coming back. I spot treat with peroxide, but am worried about it harming the fish. I want to put plants in to get the tank cycled again, but don't want to waste the money if this algae is going to ruin them. Would dosing with CO2 booster help? Or should I get cheap plants and let the tank cycle and maybe the algae will die out on its own. I had a diatom problem with my 28 gallon when it first cycled, but it wasn't nearly has persistent as this I can test the CO2 levels if that info would be helpful. This is my husband's fish, btw!
