I just wanted to share the story of my most favorite dog that I've ever had. I adopted her from a shelter in 2005. I picked her because when you gave her a hug she gave one right back. Hard to describe but she would bush her head into your chest and leave it there, leaning into you. Her name was Mya on the card outside her cage (which is what my husband always wanted to name our first girl, I took that as a sign, so we changed it to Mia).
Mia was a medium/large dog (60 lbs) and a German wire haired pointer mix. She was incredibly special. Once she scared off a burglar that was trying to break into the house while I was in the bedroom with her all by ourselves! Somehow she KNEW he was out there without seeing him and I never heard anything, but she started acting very weird with hair standing up on back and growling and pacing and making strange noises. My husband's a cop so I called him at work... he rushed over with more cops and they found a broken window in the back.
I know I adopted her but for some reason she picked me too. I have a son now and a husband and she only followed me everywhere I went in the house. EVERYWHERE. She had to be near me in same room all the time. If I would get up she would too and be my shadow. She even would come into bathroom when I shower and lay outside the tub waiting for me. And wouldn't listen to my husband if he asked her to go outside or do something else away from me. She would wait for me to tell her to do it.
I've had dogs in my life since childhood and like I said she was a very rare type of special. I'm not certain I'll have that type of bond with another dog again.
She was 15 years old and we had to let her go when she got bad arthritis that wouldn't respond to meds.
RIP Mia..... I'll always love and miss you terribly
