Had a little accident :/...question

Hello. This is my first Saltwater tank. It's 125 gal. Anyway, I turned my pump off to the sump to clean out the filter pad. Well I just set up my protein skimmer a few days ago and had it running. Not thinking about the water level rising when I turned the pump off I left the skimmer running and it overflowed so all the nasty stuff from the skimmer cup overflowed into my sump :-( it's not getting into may tank because the pump is off. So my question is, is it ok to turn the pump back on with the nasty water from the skimmer still in the sump and just let it filter back out? Would that harm my tank life (fish, crabs, shrimp, anemones and a mushroom coral)? Or should I take all the water out of he sump and add new SW?

Oops!

To be honest, it probably won't cause any trouble, but if it's trapped in the sump, it's worth using the opportunity as a water change.

The skimmer should pull it out of the water again if you were to start it up again.

This is one of the benefits of having an in-sump skimmer, if it overflows, it doesn't spill all over your cabinet

Yes it's definitely nice to have it in my sump! well I did a water change just a couple days ago :-/ so it'll be ok to just turn it back on and just let it filter back out? It won't hurt my fish, inverts, or coral having it pump back in my tank? Lol

Fish should be fine.
Inverts should be ok.
Corals may be reclusive for a day or two.

Keep an eye on nitrates.

If possible, try increasing the bubble rate on the skimmer for a few days... going more 'wet skimming'

Wet skimming is more efficient and will help clean the tank quicker, but don't go overboard. Your skimmer cup will fill quicker, and the evaporation will seem higher, it's actually due to extracting more water (and effects salinity)
