Habrosus Vs. Trilineatus

So, I am having a hard time deciding between the 2 species of Corydoras. Cories are by far my favorite. I have previously owned pygmy cories, TrilI cories, and Albino cories. I am starting a 40 gallon breeder and have been playing around with stocking ideas. It will be easier once I decide which Cory Cat I want. So, I am torn between the trilI cories or the habrosus cories. Sell me on which one you think is better and why.

I keep a small group of habrosus in my 20g, so you can guess which my preference is.

Looks aside, size would be the main difference between the two species. You can potentially keep a larger group of habrosus compared to the trilis if that is what you're after.

They also behave every bit like a regular cory, meaning they stay at the bottom, sniffing thru the substrate. Very different from the other two dwarf cory species, pygmaeus and hastatus that tend to chill mid water too. I find mine to be very outgoing too, always at the front of the tank, seldom hiding.

Hmm... I'm leaning towards Harbrosus then although I think the TrilI Corys are so intriguing and look amazing. I loved my little pygmys, but I definitely want a bottom dweller. Good to hear that Habrosus would fit that category. Going to see if anyone else has any opinions.

I also have a 40b, which I wanted to stock with cories. Problem I’ve run into is the price of new (good, healthy) fish. Takes a lot to make a 40b look not-empty. Why not do both (over time)?

I thought about that originally. I just wasn't sure if there was any problem having the smaller corys with the bigger corys.

There are by far more issues with smaller Corys (probably cause they are more sensitive for waterquality aso). So I would go for Trilis (or another bigger species).

I lost two batches of habrosus over the years so don't keep them anymore..
Never kept Trilis btw.

My favourites nowadays are C.napoensis

I love Corys with spots, I only kept Albino Bronze because my son expressed that he would really like some.

I didn't mind, they were brilliant fish in a 4 foot sand substrate and we bred them.

I've only recently started keeping Corydoras habrosus and they became my favourite Cory overnight!

They're small, so you can keep bigger schools of them and they just charm you with their dinky size.

So that's what I'd go for!

habrosus are so wiggly, I just can't handle it. they are senstive when they're first introduced, particularly if you order them through your LFS, simply because they're netted, bagged, shipped, netted, dropped in a tank, netted, bagged, dropped in the display tank. very stressful. I had purchased a (starting) group of 8, and lost three in the first week I had them home. the remaining five held on and are fine now, very active and happy. i'm going to order more online very soon, and hopefully cutting out the middleman will save them from the stress. you will not regret habrosus, I promise you.

I love my habrosus but like others, I had problems with my first batch, I’m down to four now. It’s been awhile since any deaths so knock on wood those days are over. Look at these sweet faces!
