GuppyOverlord11's 25G hex build

This is the new updates thread! The other one got more like stocking, so I made this one for updates:
Sunday 23

So yesterday I got this tank from a guy who was moving and did not want to take his tanks. He had a 25 hex and a 10 gallon, so I took them. I plan to keep the 25 and sell the 10 for money to fund the 25. This is the tank:

Fancy, I know. I don't know how Im going to stock it. See other thread for stocking: GuppyOverlord11's 25 Hex stocking | Aquarium Stocking Forum | 499872
J ust found out I can use play sand, and that Lowe's sells 50 lbs. for $5. I will use that for substrate.

Tuesday 25

Got the sand today! I will rinse it and make it aquarium safe tomorrow. I will also clean the tank then too; This is where the fun begins.

Wensday 26

Got the sand in the tank!:

I just dumped the sand in there, I'll make it pretty once I have decor and water and such. The plastic plant is probably not staying, I just put it the becuase. Also got a filter and light.

The old thread will be used for stocking suggestions.

Following. That is quite a fancy tank. Probably not ideal for most benthic fish but more suitable for ones that like to have some depth.

I found a cool rock up in the canyon, so I did a vinegar test, and it fizzed. So now I have to go look for DW at petco.

Whelp, Petco's lame. Looked yesterday and could only find ones that go up halfway. I guess I'll just have to find wood the old-fashioned way: outside.
(or maybe the new-fashioned way: online)

I bought some "California Driftwood" on Etsy. They have different lengths, and will try to accommodate you with the shape and dimensions you would like.

I'm soaking it now, and it has been releasing tannins for a week or so. Hopefully it slows/stops, as I'd like to move along to getting the tank going. Photo is day one, it has now sunk to the bottom. I intend to screw it to a thin flat stone from the bottom to hold it in position

I found some, but thanks. Reseraching how to boil it to get the bad stuff out.

Also filled the tank up with water, and will begin cycling it today! I know, I know. I'm a procrastionator.

No judgement here, I emptied the saltwater stuff from my biocube 8 months ago...

So the filter I was planning on using doesn't work! Now I have to do something else. At least it was free.

Got my 3 Amazon Swords from Amazon today! With a free bladder snail!... What? Turns out the reason it was cheaper than the other sellers with free shipping, there was no "pest free" guarantee. I'm keeping it, but later I'll probably wish I didn't. This is the tank with a (very, don't worry) temporary scape! The swords are in the back. Will be getting a new filter today.

Remember how I said I was going to get a new filter? Well, I didn't. I got busy with the ten gallon betta tank, (also spent the money in my filter budget) but will return my attention to this soon. Either that, or I will scrap it and use the 29G I got from my brother. Probably not, since in my head that's going to be for an axolotl, but.
Following now!
Shouldn't have bothered! :p

Honestly, I should rename this thread to GuppyOverlord11's Procrastination/Excuses thread

Also, there are 5 bladder snails now:eek:. How?! I haven't fed them anything!

THe bladder snails aren't thriving as well in my betta tank, that gets fed and has plants. I'm a little confused.

BUT, I have BIG NEWS! This build is cancelled. I'm going to drain it and use it for green tree frogs. Sorry.

But at least I can end this mess of a thread I've made!
Lucy, will you lock this thread please? (and the others)

Thanks for putting up with me as I rambled, changed my mind, changed my mind more, and procrastinated!
