Guppy with split tail help

I bought two new guppies on Friday and one of them had a small tear in his tail but now it's totally split.

Unfortunately, I don't really have a Qt tank yet just a 3 gallon bowl with no filter or heater.

I have some aquarium salt that I used on my Betta's clamped fins and bettafix.

Just did a 50% water change then I noticed it.

Might look into Melafix, it's a gentle med, biofilter safe, invert safe, helps with healing find and wounds. It's made by API.

Don't see a problem and immediately throw meds at it. More often than not, this causes far more harm than good.

Split fins are very common, and heal very similarly to a human cut or a bruise. Pristine water will really help him heal up - daily water changes is my recommendation.

He was hanging at the bottom, I thought he was dead.

I put him in the smaller bowl and put some salt in it with him, dissolved first. Also put the airstone in.

He's swimming around a little bit more. Might keep him in there for three or four hours.

I don't think there is any reason to worry. Do you know what may have caused the split? Is there another fish in there that is bothering it? It seems like my red tail shark almost always has a split fin from rough housing, but it always heals up within a couple of days.

Are there prickely or plastic plants in the aquarium that can tear the tail? I don't really see a big problem here. I wouldnt recommend meds. you only have 1 chance to med a fish and don't waste that chance on a simple tail split.
