Guppy nipping or tail rot??

How can you tell the difference between tail nipping and tail rot. I had just gotten a male guppy a few days ago and noticed his tail fin is split. I tried to treat with peroxide and I made his tail fin worse. I've always seemed to have issues with male guppies dying on me. Also if it is tail rot how do I treat it? Thanks.

with guppies, fin rot typically results in frayed fins instead of clean cuts. if you see rays that are still there but finnage being damaged then it is fin rot.

Ok. Thanks. What cause the clean cuts like that?

If you take a picture, we can help identify. I've had guppies pop up with fin rot both ways for ddifferent reasons.

clean cuts are fish nipping at eachother. frayed fins are typically fin rot.

typically signs of clean cuts, fins growing back and now rays showing where it is bitten
