Hello Everyone, I have a young female guppy that has its scales on its body sticking out! She also for some reason kind of fat and I don't over feed the fish fact, I put less than a dime- sized to all of them. She has a really big belly and not sure if it's bloated or obese. I put her in quarantine to help her swim because it seems she has a hard time swimming. If anyone can help me that'd be great! Thanks

It's kinda hard for me to tell from the pictures, but have you heard of dropsy?

Yes I just researched it and it's very hard to treat but I put 1tsp per gallon in the tank bc some others have showed signs so best to heal them early as I don't want them all to die

Hi, what size tank are they in? How many other fish do you have?

I'm guessing you're adding salt? Usually if you're going to do that, you'd put them in a separate container (not in the main tank) and give the affected fish salt baths. Though if your other fish are looking bloated, I would have fasted them for a few days and given them cooked peas as they work as a laxative.

Ok thanks! This is a 5 gallon tank and yes I used aquarium salt. The guppy died this morning so since some other fish started showing signs I separated those and salt dipped them. Since they are in their last stages of being fry to fish I have 7 at this point that are really small. I was just about to transfer them to my empty 20 gallon.

Are the other fish just bloated or are their scales sticking out (pineconing)? Are they lethargic and staying near the bottom? If they show these symptoms, most likely it's dropsy and they might not survive.

No they are swimming regularly and the only symptom is looking bloated so should I fast them for a couple days and give them sliced pieces of boiled carrot?

Fast them for a couple of days. You would want boiled de-shelled peas, not carrots.

Also, what are your water parameters (pH, temp, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates)?

I'd also move them to the 20 gallon asap. 7 guppies in a 5 gallon is way too small and they might be feeling the effects of that.
