How many adult guppies do you have? They breed like rabbits so you'll likely have plenty of batches in the future.

Your corys shouldn't really touch the fry. The neons and black neons won't be able to fit them in their mouths for very long. I think you'll be fine leaving them as is. I find for most livebearers, breeding boxes do more harm than good. If you've got plants and hiding places for them, most will survive. They're quick and good at hiding. Before you know it they'll be big enough to be out swimming with the adults.

Well yeah, I had them in the float, but I was taking everything out to clean. But once I finished putting plants etc back in, and my water settled, I noticed heaps swimming up near my bright orange plant... the box has holes on the bottom for oxygen which are slightly bigger then the fry..

She was my last pregnant one unfortantly.. but im waiting to see how many survive in my tank, as u said they should be fine, none of my tetras are taking notice of them really. I'll let nature take their course!

In your situation, you can leave those fry in there. They'll survive.

Whar does everyone else do with their fry?
That's so different for everyone... Keeping them, selling them or donating them....
I consciously breed fish. Some I keep and some go to other serious breeders.

#emeraldking I sent you a PM about a guppy problem a couple weeks ago, have you seen it? That one had just 3 fry or that's all I found. I have her now in a hospital tank on the 4th day of para cleanse treatment. If she's no better in 2 or 3 days I'll euthanize her. She's really worsened, I hoped you may know from pictures what it was. She doesn't seem to be eating today. Assuming a parasite, she's my 2nd with this and the other died.

No, I'm sorry... I wasn't aware of your message. Otherwise, I would've responded. So, I've just taken a look at your message and looked at those pictures. It could be a parasite but it also looks as if the vent is blocked. If that's the case, she could become sluggish. So, slower. When the vent is blocked, it's hard to solve the problem. But if it's blocked, it's in general no parasite that's causing it but an infection. A bacterial problem that can be contageous. In such cases, the female won't eat anymore. For she will have a hard time to get rid of her waste.

Thank you - that was happening tonight when I fed her, and she was near the bottom. If she's alive in the morning, I will have to end her life, she is suffering.

Sorry for jumping into this post Dimmy. I needed to talk to him, he is the expert with livebearing fish.

Dimmy, last year I had a female give birth to about 60 fry. I knew the night before she was very close, and put her into a cycled 10 gallon aquarium, took a couple fish out so she could be alone. I have never seen so many babies in my life, from one female! She died the next day, it was so traumatic for her to carry and deliver all that life. I had to give most of them to a fish store, after feeding them for a month. A young female will drop much fewer numbers than an older one. I cannot cope with so many. I am now almost done with raising guppies, except for the 3 fry my sick female gave me last week, and the father of those babies, who is in my community tank now. They are blue that I wanted very much, and I hope these 3 have a mix of male/female I don't know if the male I have will live another 6 months to breed again. I won't let my females breed before 6 months. The one that is dying now is about 8 months old, I'm sad to be losing her. Guppies can have many problems, more than any other fish I keep. I am just going to keep it small from now on and focus on others.

I wish you luck with your babies!

Pretty sure I've lost some, Ive only counted 5 for the past few days, but they do hide and they're hard to see at times when I have plants.. some are bigger then the others though....

I've only been counting 5 for the past few days.. 3 are huge babies, 2 are tiny still... is that normal??

Hello, No worries, that fine lol.
And thanks for your comment, yes I think my guppy was Farley young, and she was huge! I could tell she was stressed but I was having trouble reducing it, I knew she held her babies in to long because some came out massive and dead for guppy fry. Others came out alive all different sizes, big and small, I watched the birth and when I seen the first baby struggling to come out I knew the fry wasn't alive. My guppy stressed so much she didn't even finish delivering her fry as she still has a massive gravid spot. It was very sad, but now I have her babies and I'm hoping they look like her, she was a very bright yellow for a female guppy.
How are they looking for 5/6 days old???

I think it looks very healthy and the normal size! Congratulations on them. I've had so many guppies and never got to witness a birth. They all seemed to drop at night, so disappointing! The one I was asking Emeraldking about did die that same night, I checked before going to sleep, and removed her. She was also very full of fry but because she had such a problem, only 3 were born. Perhaps more that she ate, I don't know. But I was so grateful to capture those 3 and put them into a healthy tank where they're safe and growing fast. I also had peppered cory fry and thought for a couple weeks only 2 survived. As time has gone on, they're growing quickly and I have found 5 cuties. My shrimp tank is a good place for them all to grow out.

I love corys, I have 3 Bronze, I did have 4 but one passed a couple of days ago, it had a miniature front thing that seemed damaged not sure if that was the problem, I'm hoping my corys breed and I get some eggs one day, I'm still unsure I'm how to sex them though. Unfortantly I don't have another tank set up for fry yet but I'm going to soon, there's 3 tanks but there all full. Is it easier to count how many fry survive once there a decent size??

Yes, because they really know how to hide! There were about 15 eggs the parents missed eating and they all hatched by 4 days.
With most types of cories, the females grow noticeably larger than males. It's hard to tell until they're mature.

What do you do with guppy fry???
Well, I'm a conscious fish breeder. And mainly of livebearers. I'm setting up new lines of guppy strains. But I also tend to breed exsisting strains of livebearers. And a special focus on rare livebearers. I do sell to other serious breeders, but also stores are ordering, I do participate as an exhibitor at vivaristic events where those fish will be offered and universities, zoos and research labs can contact me to order fish. I also breed livebearers that are endangered and keep the species concerned available to contribute to projects where such species can be released again in their endemic areas.
My aquaristic activities are a bit more than with the average aquarist.

I knew you were something far above average! Thankful to have good people like you keeping species alive that may otherwise be gone now.
