Hey, I have three guppy fry that look like check marks. Is this due to inbreeding? The parents that I have I got from multiple different stores. What do I do with a Guppies that look like check marks do I euthanize them or will they grow out of it? Is there something I can do better to avoid it?

Do all of them look like that? It appears to be a deformity. They will likely not grow out of it, and you should probably euthanize them so that they can’t produce offspring with the same issues.

No I have close to 50 fry and only 3 have it.

I put my guppies in breeder boxes and did not see them with the bent back. Does it take a while to form or is it something I just missed?

One more thing, what would be the best way to euthanize the fish? Just flush them down the toilet, I've heard about freezing them, I could maybe use rubbing alcohol. I just wanted to be quick and as painless as possible.

I have culled my fry very early. Any with bent spines are culled. I feed them to my larger fish but if that bothers you there are other methods such as clove oil or freezing. I have even crushed them which is distasteful to some but instantaneous with no suffering in my opinion. Don't allow them to breed. JMO good luck. Oh, rubbing alcohol NO!

Clove oil is the most humane, from what I've heard, although I've never euthanized a fish so I can't speak from experience.

They obviously are deformed and should be culled. In no way should they be allowed to mature and breed.

Thank you everyone! I will pull them out and try and feed them to the adult fish.

Is there a way I can prevent this deformity from happening?

It's just random genetic mutations or possibly damage during the birthing process, not really anything you can do.
